‘The Acolyte’ a new Star Wars series: Cast, Synopsis & Release Date

The Acolyte, a new Star Wars series by Russian Doll creator Leslye Headland, will star Amandla Stenberg, according to a statement from the actress. Instagram verified the story with a picture of Stenberg and R2-D2 posing with a Darth Maul T-shirt. The official Star Wars Twitter account also welcomed Stenberg to the galaxy far, far away in celebration of her new role in the franchise. According to reports in December 2021, Stenberg was being considered as a lead actor for the series, which takes place 100 years prior to the events of the Prequel Trilogy.

A multi-media publishing venture named simply “Star Wars: The High Republic” is focusing on this time period known as the “High Republic” for fans of the Star Wars novels. It’s a time that’s been referred to as the golden era of the Jedi during the High Republic when the Jedi are pitted against criminals known as the Nihil, led by Marchion Ro. Comments from series director Headland hint that the Jedi will at least figure in the series, in a time before they became the “warrior monks” we saw at the end of the Republic. Stenberg’s position in The Acolyte is presently unknown. As for Stenberg, he has a long list of credits that includes his breakout performance in 2012’s The Hunger Games.

They have appeared in films including The Hate U Give, The Darkest Minds, The Eddy, and Dear Evan Hansen in the last several years. Bodies, Bodies, Bodies, which also stars Maria Bakalova, Lee Pace, and Pete Davidson, will be their next project. After the huge success of The Mandalorian, Disney+ has commissioned a slew of new live-action Star Wars programmes. Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen reprised their roles from the Prequel Trilogy in Obi-Wan Kenobi, which was released earlier this year and stars Temuera Morrison and Ming-Na Wen.

In Andor, Diego Luna will reprise his Rogue One role as Cassian Andor, opposite Genevieve O’Reilley as Mon Mothma, which he initially played in the film. The 3rd season of The Mandalorian is slated to be released later this year, with the premiere of Ahsoka Tano in 2023. The Acolyte’s release date has not yet been announced. Andor will be the next Star Wars movie to be released on Disney+.
