Untold: The Story of a Girlfriend Who Never Was The Catfishing Scam that Affects Manti Te’o: Synopsis, Release Date & Cast Details

Untold: The Girlfriend Who Didn’t Exist, a documentary series on American football great Manti Te’o’s famed Girlfriend Hoax, has its first official trailer on Netflix. The first five episodes of Untold, a Netflix-exclusive sports documentary series, were published last year. Breaking Point (Episode 1), focuses on tennis pro Mardy Fish; Episode 2 (Untold: Crimes and Penalties) focuses on former hockey franchise owner James Galane and his son, A. J. Galane; Episode 3 (Untold: Malice at the Palace) focuses on what is known as one of the most infamous brawls in NBA history; Episode 4 (Untold: Deal with the Devil) focuses on female boxer C.J. DeJesus; “This highly acclaimed series provides fresh views to big tales from the broad world of sports,” says Netflix of its Untold series. These aren’t the stories you’ve heard before about anything from football to basketball to streetball to sailing.

Starting with a critical moment and then delving into the stories of people who were there, each video premieres weekly and reveals the grit, tenacity, tragedy and success as related by those who were there.” In Untold Volume 2, four new stories, including The Girlfriend Who Didn’t Exist, will be published. The fraud around Manti Te’o, a native Hawaiian linebacker, is the focus of this episode. Lennay Kekua, Te’o’s grandmother and lover, died on the same day in September 2012. It was a fascinating tale that elicited sympathy from the public and the media alike.

His girlfriend, however, was a fake. A more accurate description is that it was a fictitious persona developed by a transgender woman and co-star Naya Tuiasopsp, who will also be interviewed for the documentary. Te’o will also share his personal experience of becoming a victim of an online catfish and making national headlines for it. All-American football star Manti Te’o’s life can be summed up in three words: faith, family, and football. When tragedy strikes, the heightened public scrutiny of his online relationship threatens his career and legacy as college football’s golden kid. In-depth interviews with Manti Te’o and Ronaiah ‘Naya’ Tuiasosopo, the guy behind the internet alias. The Girlfriend Who Didn’t Exist, the first episode of Untold Volume 2, will debut on Netflix on August 16th.
