We’ve seen a slew of paranormal reality TV series in the last two decades owing to shows like Ghost Hunters. However, Buzzfeed Unsolved: Supernatural, hosted by Ryan Bergara and Shane Madej, was one of the more outlandish shows to emerge from this mania. Ghoul Boys aired for seven seasons until being cancelled last year, but worry not, the Ghoul Boys are back in their new spooky series Ghost Files. For those who can’t wait until the series debuts in September, here’s an exclusive first look at the adorable ghost-hunting team in action. The 10-minute teaser reintroduces us to Bergara and Madej’s fascinating banter at Waverly Hills Sanatorium. Bergara goes into a dark and eerie environment alone in this video, which was aired at VidCon just a few weeks ago.
However, this new series has a twist. Before Bergara explores on his own, Madej hides a walkie-talkie for him to uncover. A visit to Waverly Hills, one of America’s most notoriously haunted locations, is not for the faint-hearted. Fans know Bergara is the group’s believer, but Madej’s scepticism always causes the two to have a light-hearted argument. During Unsolved’s run, there were several moments of hilarity between the two and their differing views. I’m expecting more of the same from this new show, which is OK with me.
In the way it strikes a mix between fun and factual information, Ghost Files actually does feel like the literal spiritual heir to Unsolved.
To make light of their preposterous predicament, the original series discovered a unique approach to respect both the paranormal realm and the environment they were in. It was also remarkable how much work and effort they put into each episode. Bergara and Madeji’s seamless connection makes their content some of the most amusing you’ll ever see. Debrief, a follow-up programme to Unsolved, was also teased at the end of the video by the duo. The fans will be in for a fantastic treat if it’s anything like the previous Postmortem. The Watcher YouTube channel will premiere Ghost Files in September.
