All good things eventually come to an end, according to the proverb. Desus & Mero, the late-night Showtime comedy duo, can attest to this. The show’s hosts, Desus Nice and The Kid Mero, have opted to pursue “different artistic ventures” & will not be returning for the 5th season, it has been announced. After four seasons, Showtime has confirmed that Desus & Mero would not be returning, despite the show having a devoted audience. According to Variety, a Showtime spokeswoman confirmed that “Desus Nice and The Kid Mero would be pursuing independent creative pursuits going forward.
As of Thursday, June 23, Desus & Mero, Showtime’s late-night chat programme, will not return for a fifth season. “Comedians Desus Nice and The Kid Mero have created a reputation for themselves as sharp cultural analysts in late-night television. All along the show’s existence, it earned a WGA Award, was nominated for Critics’ Choice and had interviews with the likes of President Obama, Joe Biden, Derek Jeter, Missy Elliott and Denzel Washington. They’ve been wonderful hosts, and we want to thank them, the Jax Media team, and the fantastic crew for their hard work and dedication.” In March, the couple returned to the studio for the fourth season after spending much of the epidemic running the programme from their homes.
However, they only aired the show once a week instead of the normal twice. This is the third time that the two have worked together since they formed a partnership. The Bodega Boys podcast, which premiered in 2015 and had over 250 episodes when Desus & Mero debuted in 2019, was a source of pride for the duo. On Complex TV in 2014, they aired a show before moving to Viceland for the second time in 2016.
A total of 180 episodes of Desus & Mero were broadcast over the course of the show’s four seasons, with Derek Jeter being the show’s last guest star. Among the numerous A-list guests on the show over its entire run were Barack Obama, Joe Biden, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and Denzel Washington. “We have a deep connection,” Mero told Deadline in July 2020, when the show was relocated from its original Monday night slot to a Sunday night time slot.
We were able to complete each other’s thoughts. Because as long as we have good Wi-Fi, it doesn’t matter where he is on the planet and where I am. Physical proximity is helpful for physical comedy, but jokes strike no matter what.” Season 4 featured the addition of executive producer J.D. Amato, who also served as showrunner for the first time. There are four seasons of the show available to watch online right now on Showtime.
