Following the announcement that Ghost Recon Breakpoint has received its final update, it has been rumoured that a new Ghost Recon game is in the works. According to Kotaku, the codename for the next game in the series is OVER, and it was first revealed by Nvidia in a leak. According to Kotaku sources, the game has already been in production for more than a year and is expected to be launched in the fiscal year 2023 at the earliest.
The free-to-play live-service shooter Ghost Recon Frontline is also getting a relaunch following bad feedback from an internal playtest earlier this year, according to the news site IGN. It is unlikely that it will be released anytime soon.
As we previously reported, Ghost Recon Breakpoint has gotten its final update, however, the game’s servers will continue to be available.
It comes as a result of the contentious introduction of NFTs in the game through Ubisoft’s Quartz platform. Quartz is planning to continue its development despite widespread support for the game’s termination. In a message to Breakpoint NFT owners, the message states, “You own a piece of the game and have put your mark in its history.” “Stay tuned for more upgrades with platform improvements and future drops coming with other titles,” says the developer.
It is presently uncertain which games will have NFTs as a result of Quartz’s implementation, however, their inclusion in Breakpoint did not appear to be a success. Ubisoft claims that gamers “don’t get” NFTs and that, despite the demise of Breakpoint, the company will continue to include them in its games in the future.
