Aspyr Interactive revealed the Nintendo Switch adaptation of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed during the first Nintendo Direct of 2022. This port of the Star Wars game will bring it back to life fourteen years after its initial release in 2008. Starkiller, Darth Vader’s secret apprentice, was the focus of both Star Wars: The Force Unleashed and its sequel. At the time of its debut, the first game was the fastest-selling Star Wars game, with many fans appreciating the opportunity to play as a fresh, never-before-seen villain. Starkiller’s journey continued in the second game despite the fact that it was not as well-received as the first.
This third feature was cancelled in 2014 after Disney purchased Lucasfilm and Star Wars, relegating it to non-canonical content known as Sar Wars Legends, which was renamed The Force Unleashed. As a result, we may never know the full tale of Starkiller. Fans will be able to go back to the beginning of Starkiller’s tale on the Nintendo Switch on April 20th, 2022, according to a press statement and a teaser posted on Aspyr’s YouTube channel.
There have been some visual changes, but in terms of controls and joycons, the game is the same as it was on Wii U, with new methods to utilise the Force available. One-on-one “Duel Mode” in the game will allow players to face off against each other in a lightsaber duel after selecting one of 27 characters. According to what I’ve seen, this version just includes the original game. If this one works well, perhaps the second one will be transferred as well. ‘ Even if not, this provides Star Wars fans with an opportunity to revisit a memorable moment in the galaxy’s history.
Making it possible for players to play as both a Sith ally and Darth Vader’s apprentice was a novel way to approach the Star Wars mythos. Fans have been depicted as supporters of the Light Side in subsequent Star Wars games, such as Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. As a result, The Force Unleashed stood apart simply because of its focus on a single character. Even after all these years, the re-release of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed is quite shocking. In spite of the lack of hope that this will lead to the growth or completion of Starkiller’s plot, at least it will be an enjoyable journey down memory lane for fans of the original trilogy. It serves as a timely reminder of how interesting Star Wars can be when taken in new directions.
