The results of a recent Dungeons & Dragons player poll might lead to changes to Feats in the next 5.5e edition of D&D. Feats are unique skills that exist outside of a character’s race or class, giving the player even more freedom to personalise their character. Due to the prominence given to feats in the fighter class in the Third Edition of D&D, fighters have become one of the game’s most adaptable races. Current D&D rules make Feats optional and can be disregarded by parties.
Upon reaching level four in 5e, a character gains two stat points to use as they see fit. Instead of stat points, the player can select a Feat if the optional Feat rules are implemented. Feats offer a wide range of valuable skills, many of which give melee and ranged warriors new combat choices. Over the past several months, Wizards of the Coast has been sending out questionnaires to see how players feel about various aspects of the game.
According to Bell of Lost Souls, there is a new poll on Alchemer on Feats that includes all of the Feats from the 5e Player’s Handbook. In addition to indicating whether or not they have used a particular Feat in their own games or participated in a game in which that Feat was utilised, players are asked to score all of the available Feats from “Very Dissatisfied” to “Very Satisfied.” When the rules for D&D’s imminent 5.5 update are revealed, their comments will be taken into consideration. In time for the game’s 50th anniversary in 2024, Wizards of the Coast plans to release new editions of the three primary D&D rulebooks.
Depending on the results of this newest poll, certain Feats may be enhanced, while others may be eliminated or amalgamated with other Feats. There is a chance that Feats will become an integral feature of the game itself. Wizards of the Coast may add Feats as part of the basic rules if the majority of players admit to utilising them in their games. The D&D 5.5e surveys may help bring back the significance of feats in the next edition of Dungeons & Dragons, as they were in 3e and 4e.
