Injustice-style Marvel fighting game rosters have been dreamed up by a creative fan. Even while NetherRealm is rumoured to be working on Mortal Kombat 12 rather than a Marvel or Injustice 3 fighting game, most industry insiders believe that the Mortal Kombat developer is instead focusing its efforts on the currently unreleased Mortal Kombat 12. In spite of this, fighting game fans have been wondering if a hypothetical fighting game based on Marvel’s legendary comic book characters would feature their favourite characters, and a supposed leak of the NetherRealm Marvel game’s roster from July raised eyebrows for its mix of both mainstream and obscure Marvel characters alongside surprise guest fighters like Raiden and the Star Wars Sequel Trilogy villain Kylo Ren.
It has been nearly two years since Marvel Vs. Capcom: Infinity was released to a mediocre review, but smaller games like Marvel Contest of Champions have been filling this hole on mobile devices like the Playstation 4 and Xbox One.
Rock Rder, a Twitter user and The Escapist graphic designer, just completed the storey campaign of Injustice 2 and pleased Marvel’s Spider-Man creator Insomniac Games with his custom-made fan poster of its Marvel goods.
Since it’s DC’s current NetherRealm fighting game’s aesthetic, he decided to make a custom Marvel character selecting screen in the style. However, Rock Rder’s dream team is made up of characters from contemporary Marvel publications, such as Spider-Man (as a video game version), The Avengers/Galaxy/Guardians of the Galaxy/Doc Ock/Kingpin/Thanos.
Since Marvel’s Spider-Man won nearly unanimous acclaim on PlayStation consoles and Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy surprised fans with its release last fall, the publisher has experienced a wave of successful and high-quality triple-A video games. Marvel’s Wolverine and Marvel’s Midnight Suns, two future Insomniac games that aim to merge the supernatural aspects of Marvel with X-COM-style tactical gameplay, will take players beyond Spidey’s web of influence. NetherRealm or another developer may launch a new Marvel fighting game at the right time, many believe, with all the amazing Marvel games that are on the road.
Characters like Ghost Rider and Blade appear on Rock Rder’s fan-made character selection screen, making it appear as though Rock Rder’s fan-made roster would be a logical one for such a game. Time will tell if NetherRealm will reveal a Marvel version of the lucrative Injustice games, as it appears that they are now focused on the Mortal Kombat series.
