Xbox’s official YouTube channel has released a six-part documentary tracing the 20-year history of the company today. Microsoft made its first foray into the gaming industry on November 15, 2001, with the launching of the original Xbox. The console from the electronics giant proved revolutionary in a variety of ways, including the fact that it was the first to incorporate an ethernet connector.
Halo, which was released on the same day as the console, was an example of how Xbox pushed the boundaries in terms of both technology and software. The first-person shooter was developed by Bungie and went on to inspire a number of subsequent sci-fi FPS games, including PlayStation’s Killzone series. As a result, Microsoft and Xbox have a lot to celebrate this year, and they’ve taken advantage of every opportunity to do so. The time is right for the company to release a documentary, too.
As of this writing, Xbox’s YouTube channel has released a six-part documentary series that clocks in at almost four hours. An upcoming documentary titled Power On: The Story of Xbox chronicles the history of the gaming sector, including the near-failure of Xbox. The Red Ring of Death on the Xbox 360 is also examined in depth in the docu-series. Like Nintendo and PlayStation, Xbox has reached a point where its legacy can be celebrated in the same way. For Microsoft and its allies, this year has shown that there will be much more to celebrate in the years to come.
After a slow start, Xbox’s 2021 swiftly caught up momentum, thanks in large part to the release of Forza Horizon 5 and Halo Infinite, as well as the fantastic Xbox Game Pass offers. For the 20th anniversary of the Halo franchise, the multiplayer suite of the new Halo game received a lot of attention when it was released early. The single-player campaign was released on December 8 as anticipated by Xbox and developer 343 Industries.
