Halo Infinite’s multiplayer is going to get a lot more fun soon. Slayer, Fiesta, SWAT, and Free-For-All will be added to the game on December 14. 343 Industries, the company that made Halo Infinite, had a good week with the game’s official launch. Halo Infinite won the Players’ Voice award at the Game Awards on December 9, which was the only award it was nominated for at the event. It was also the only award at the event that was decided by fans.
First, Halo Infinite’s free multiplayer was praised for its gameplay, but greedy monetization practices and bad battle pass design quickly led to a strong outcry from fans that quickly turned into an outcry against the game itself. Some of the attacks on 343 Industries got so bad that the Halo subreddit was temporarily shut down. This meant that no one could post for a full 24 hours. In the last few days, 343 Industries has made it clear that improving multiplayer is their main goal.
Ske7ch, a community manager for 343 Industries, wrote a post on the Halo subreddit about a major update to the game’s multiplayer. Several new playlists will be added in a December 14 patch. Among the playlists are “Free For All,” “Fiesta,” “Tactical Slayer (formerly SWAT), and “Slayer.” To put it in simple terms: The Slayer playlist will only have the basic Team Deathmatch mode. The team’s original plans for the playlist included a lot of new variants that weren’t going to be ready before the holiday break. Fiesta is the only playlist that will be coming back with the update. It was first played during the first week of Halo Infinite’s Fracture: Tenrai event.
Perhaps the most interesting part of the update is about changes that will be made to the current challenge system in the game. For Infinite’s first season, the only way to level up the battle pass is to complete a series of random challenges. Before, you could get XP just for playing games. Some of these challenges have been praised for how hard they are or how focused they are on one thing, like getting killed with a certain weapon or vehicle. When you play Halo Infinite, you’ll get challenges based on how well you do. This is “a small first step toward “performance-based XP.”
There is a lot more to Halo than just the multiplayer update. It took a long time for a new trailer for a live-action Halo show on Paramount+ to show up, but one day after Halo Infinite’s campaign started, it did! The campaign has been praised for its new take on Halo gameplay and how it moves the series’ story forward in a big way. For both the fans and the people who make Halo Infinite, things are looking good for the future of the game.
