A fan of Animal Crossing has developed a piece of clay art that brings a Gyroid to life. The Gyroid, most known for sitting outside the player’s house in Nintendo’s open-ended sim, has a variety of purposes beyond adornment. From teaching it specific messages to selling stuff to other players, the Gyroid is as useful as it is amusing with its quirky sounds and wiggles.
Gyroids, cooking, and farming were all included in last month’s Animal Crossing update. Prior to the update, players could interact with only one lone Gyroid, Lloid, but the Gyroid population has grown significantly, especially with the addition of the Gyroid fragment feature. As long-time Animal Crossing gamers are probably aware, the Gyroids are modeled after the Haniwa, terracotta clay sculptures manufactured for ritual purposes in ancient Japan. Gyroid’s connection to Haniwa appears to have prompted one imaginative fan to build a clay representation of the special figure.
LoafyCrumble, a Reddit user, used Animal Crossing clay art to bring a Gyroid to life and shared it with the game’s subreddit community. As with the ancient Haniwa inventors, LoafyCrumble fashioned his own purple-hued Gyroid out of clay, replete with a cone-head and beard. The beard was inspired by the Gyroid’s creator, who had one himself. LoafyCrumble is not the first Gyroid enthusiast who has been inspired to create physical representations of rhythmic figures. An Animal Crossing enthusiast recently created realistic crocheted Gyroids with their own distinct patterns.
LoafyCrumble’s Gyroid is more unusual, as it is not a realistic representation of any of the gyroid kinds already available in the game. The Gyroid’s distinctiveness and attention to detail drew a considerable amount of positive comments from Reddit users. According to one fan, because LoafyCrumble developed his own Haniwa, his soul would be preserved when he enters the great beyond. The Gyroid’s body was constructed primarily on a pottery wheel. After trimming the body’s shape, homemade arms were affixed.
The created Gyroid, dubbed “LoafyCrumbleoid” by one Reddit user, resembles a cross between a Flutteroid and a Xylophoid due to its purple skin and the form of its face and torso. LoafyCrumble is also a fan of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, for which he made artwork. Coincidentally, Nintendo recently issued the patch notes for Smash Bros. Ultimate Version 13.0.1, the final update to the long-running fighting game. As players pay tribute to the game, the termination of support for this famous fighter may inspire other fan projects. Meanwhile, Animal Crossing fans will hopefully get access to additional Gyroid artwork now that the long-running clay critters have made their way into the game. Perhaps a clay version of Mr. Resetti might act as a companion piece to the upcoming clay Gyroid, reminding gamers how to save their Animal Crossing gaming properly.
