There’s a new clue on the Pokémon Legends: Arceus website suggesting Voltorb or Electrode will be getting a Hisuian makeover. First introduced in the original Pokemon Red and Blue games, Electrode and Voltorb are Pokémon that resemble Poké Balls in appearance.
Game Freak didn’t know if the games would be popular enough to warrant a sequel when they made Pokémon Red and Blue. Pokémon is still making games today, making it the most popular media franchise of all time. Game Freak doesn’t appear to be bothered with the consistency of the Pokémon franchise, which has a shaky timeline at best. So long as new components arrive in this series, they’re readily accepted by fans, like when Dark and Steel-type Pokémon appeared in Pokémon Gold and Silver or when Fairy-type Pokémon debuted in Pokémon X. This series doesn’t care about continuity.
A precursor to Pokémon Legends: Arceus will take place in the Hisui region of Sinnoh, a time when the region was known as the Sinnoh region. Steam-powered Poké Balls are used by trainers in Pokémon Legends: Arceus to catch Pokémon. It appears that steam-powered versions of Electrode and Voltorb are also on the way. The Ball Guy from Pokémon Sword & Shield has a message for fans on the official Pokémon Twitter feed. On the official Pokémon Legends: Arceus website, he’s requesting that fans assist him in collecting Poké Balls for distribution. Animated Poké Balls have been added to the website. One of the balls will burst if the player clicks on it, clearing the screen. It’s possible that the website’s “Reduce Motion” option has been turned off, preventing an update from displaying. Because of this, it’s possible that a Hisuian Electrode or Voltorb is on its way.
Some Pokémon Go fans speculated that Hisuian Electrode/Voltorb would be revealed with the release of the new Poké Balls. Pokémon Red and Blue’s original Electric-type Pokémon are based on these Pokémon from Pokémon Black and White. They will presumably be Fire/Water-type creatures if the new Poké Ball variants are based on steam-powered Poké Balls.
A variety of Hisuian forms in Pokémon Legends have been leaked, including Arceus and Hisuian Electrode/Voltorb. Some of these Pokémon haven’t received any new forms since the days of Pokémon Red and Blue, so it’s exciting to watch how they’ll alter as a result of new forms.
