According to the game’s creator, a sequel to Super Smash Bros. is not in the works

Masahiro Sakurai, the man of Super Smash Bros., has revealed that neither a new instalment nor his continued involvement in the series is in the works. Has been revealed that the next game in the Super Smash Bros. series is presently not being planned. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has received its final update, delivering one final round of balancing adjustments to the roster and bringing the game to an end.
Super Smash Bros. developer Sakurai has been putting in long hours on the franchise for a long time now. Because of DLC, the development of Super Smash Bros. 3DS/Wii U was extended. Development of Ultimate began after work on 3DS and U finished, and it expanded on the framework laid established by the previous two games to expedite its creation. A year after its release, it’s the third-best-selling Nintendo Switch title. The game was widely praised by critics and consumers alike. This eventually led to the game becoming the most popular fighting game in history.
Future Super Smash Bros. games are now in doubt due to the sheer size and number of characters in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, which makes it impossible for any future games to compete with it. The future of the Super Smash Bros. franchise was recently discussed by Sakurai in an interview with IGN. When he was asked about returning to the series, he stated that he had no plans to do so at the moment.
Because of this, it’s not unexpected that Nintendo hasn’t started planning the next game yet. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s quick production time was owing to a variety of factors. This Super Smash Bros. game was a must-have for Nintendo’s new Switch console, which was still reeling from its failure with the Wii U since it would have been a massive pull for the machine. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s development time was slashed significantly because it was based on the foundation laid by Super Smash Bros. 3DS/Wii U.
The Super Smash Bros. series has taken up a large portion of Sakurai’s attention. Sakurai has explored possible future intentions, which could include stepping away from game production altogether. However, he may be interested in returning to the franchise if Nintendo prepares a Super Smash Bros. game for the successor to the Switch.
