According to some Fortnite players, the new Spider-Man skin emotes pay-to-win because of its unfair mechanics. New features, skins, and equipment were added to the game in Season 1 of Fortnite’s Chapter 3 on December 5. Aside from Dwane “The Rock” Johnson’s role as the Foundation in Chapter 3 and the introduction of a new map, one of the most interesting additions was the Spider-Man Battle Pass skin. The three Spider-Man skins that Fortnite released in preparation for Marvel’s Spider-Man: Far From Home were the classic suit, a Symbiote Spider-Man, and a Future Foundation Spider-Man. Skins and Web-Shooters were also included in Season 1 of Chapter 3, along with the swinging mechanism, which allows players to throw webs over the island. There have been claims that Fortnite’s web-slinging mechanic is superior to the Spider-Man motions and movement in Crystal Dynamic’s Marvel’s Avengers. In addition to the Spider-Man skin, Fortnite added new emotes, including one that some fans believe gives an unfair advantage.
Fortnite TikToker nickeh30 (via Dexerto) claims that according to the game’s Spider-Man emote; it is pay-to-win. Using web-slinging, the TikToker demonstrated that the Neighborly Hang emote can be used to hide from adversaries, concealing them from view. The method was employed by Nickeh30 to get the upper hand on an unsuspecting attacker and secure the kill.

As a purchased cosmetic, the Spider-Man emote in Fortnite is understandable for some gamers to be furious. Furthermore, Fortnite skins have already been deemed pay-to-win, and this isn’t the first time this has happened. The unique concealment ability that each of the Mystique skins, as well as the Lt. Evergreen, Nutcracker, and Snowmando skins (via the Mystique skin), offered to their owners made them appear to be pay-to-win items when they were first launched. The skins might be used to hide in plain sight, evading opponents in the same way as the Spider-Man emote. In the game industry, pay-to-win is a huge no-no, but it’s not yet clear how Epic Games plans to deal with Neighborly Hang’s abusable mechanic or if it will at all.
Epic Games said that Fortnite Chapter 3 servers witnessed tremendous player counts, more than any other season started when the new season of Fortnite debuted earlier this week. In general, the community is pleased with the slew of new features, such as the new weather conditions and locales. A majority of gamers are pleased with the Spider-Man skin’s pay-to-win ability, although others are not. In the meanwhile, players will have to rely on their spider senses to protect themselves from the Neighborly Hang exploit until Epic fixes the problem.
