A competent player has increased his killstreak in Call Of Duty: Vanguard by utilising the most unlikely of controllers: the DK Bongos. A Vanguard Call of Duty Player Makes Use of Donkey Kong Bongos.
Note from the Editor: The California Department of Fair Employment and Housing has filed a complaint against Activision Blizzard, alleging that the corporation has engaged in abuse, discrimination, and retaliation against female employees. Activision Blizzard has vehemently refuted the charges. The complete contents of the Activision Blizzard case are being updated as new information becomes available (content warning: rape, suicide, abuse, and harassment).
One savvy Twitch streamer found out how to play Call of Duty: Vanguard with Nintendo’s iconic DK Bongos controller and even managed to rack up an incredible killstreak in the process. The game industry behemoth first created this drum-shaped controller for the Donkey Konga spin-off series, a collection of rhythm games in which players assist Donkey Kong and his friends in becoming musical legends by drumming along to various tunes. Along with the original Donkey Konga and its two sequels (the latter of which was only released in Japan), the Donkey Kong drums were used in the 2005 platformer Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat, which required players to assist DK in navigating through colourful landscapes by pounding and clapping in time with prompts.
Apart from their official use in the Donkey Kong games, modders have worked out how to play a variety of different games using DK’s distinctive Bongos controllers throughout the years, with the most renowned example being a YouTuber going by the handle of Super Louis 64. He astonished fans last December when he used the DK Bongos to destroy Dark Souls’ enormous Tower Knight. Earlier that year, he used the little drum-shaped attachment to play through Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, an accomplishment that appears to have encouraged others to take to the battlefield with a pair of plastic percussive instruments.
According to Kotaku, DeanoBeano, a Twitch broadcaster, recently used the DK Bongos controller to extend his streak of about 105 kills and assists in Call Of Duty: Vanguard. DeanoBeano shows how he was able to optimise the number of operations he could execute on the Donkey Kong Bongo controller’s five buttons to shoot, crouch, and slide just as well as gamers using more traditional controllers. DeanoBeano is far from the first person to play Call of Duty with a musical instrument – he previously played 2020’s Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War with a recorder and even a real drum set.
Call Of Duty: Vanguard is the latest entry in the long-running military first-person shooter series, having premiered in September on all current-generation consoles. Fans and critics have largely praised Call of Duty: Vanguard’s single-player storey and multiplayer gameplay; however, fans have questioned the game’s standard Call of Duty Zombies mode and overall lack of originality compared to the previous Call of Duty games. Call Of Duty: Vanguard is also experiencing post-launch technical troubles, with the game’s Secrets of the Pacific upgrade being cancelled immediately after it was released last week owing to crashes during multiplayer games.
Meanwhile, it’s always fascinating to witness how inventive some players can be during multiplayer games of Call of Duty: Vanguard – even more so when an outrageous alternative controller like the DK Bongos is involved. DeanoBeano’s 105 opponents in his Call Of Duty: Vanguard session undoubtedly had no idea they would be defeated by a pair of plastic drums – until it happened.
