In advance of the upcoming Anime NYC convention, Crunchyroll has unveiled their plans, which include a special celebration running up to the premiere of One Piece’s 1000th episode.
This week, the anime streaming service released its full schedule of events for Anime NYC, which will take place at the Javits Center in New York City from November 19 to 21. Throughout the event, Crunchyroll will host a number of premieres, including a sneak peek at the first episode of Love of Kill, a first look at the English dub of the sleeper hit ODDTAXI, and preview events for the new isekai The Land of Leadale, the new shonen series Orient, and the colourful sci-fi adventure Sakugan, among others.
The 1000th episode of One Piece will be screened at the convention on Saturday, November 20 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. EST, and will undoubtedly be the highlight of the weekend for many fans of the manga and anime series. Fans of Eiichiro Oda’s long-running manga series will also have the opportunity to test their knowledge of Luffy’s escapades in a quiz contest that will take place before the show. Those who attend the premiere will also receive a special One Piece 1000 challenge coin as a memento of the occasion.
Lastly, if you still haven’t had enough new anime to watch, Crunchyroll will have an industry panel on Saturday, November 20 from 3:30 – 4:30 P.M. EST, where they will discuss the latest anime and manga titles that will be available on their site. During the same day, the CrunchyCast, Crunchyroll’s official podcast, will also hold a live episode of their show at 6:30 P.M. EST, which will be broadcast on Crunchyroll.
Fans who are unable to attend Anime NYC may still take part in the festivities surrounding One Piece by tuning in to the 1000th episode livestream hosted by Funimation and Toei Animation on July 31. The One Piece online event will be broadcast via the official YouTube feeds of both companies, as well as on the One Piece official Facebook page, among other places.
In addition to a free broadcast of episodes 998 and 999 of the series, the livestream will include fan videos and prize giveaways, which will be hosted by YouTuber RogersBase. This year’s webcast will begin on November 20th at 3:00 PM EDT (5:00 PM PT).
One Piece is a manga series written and illustrated by Eiichiro Oda that was originally published in Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in 1997. In the 24 years since its initial publication, the series has managed to surpass all previous records to become the best-selling manga series of all time, with nearly half a billion copies in print worldwide.
The first episode of the anime adaption aired in 1999. Despite the fact that the series appears to have only gained in popularity over time, both Oda and publisher Shueisha have hinted that the series is reaching the end of its run.
Netflix is currently in the process of creating a live-action adaptation of the series, which will include Oda as executive producer and will air in 2019.
