A post-apocalyptic city builder game, Surviving the Aftermath is one of the rare ones. Introducing town-building features to post-apocalyptic environments was lauded in both Fallout 4 and State of Decay.
Aside from Frostpunk and its impending sequel, not many other games are focused on reestablishing civilisation after the nuclear war.
Surviving the Aftermath, which has been in early access for several years, is now available in its entirety. The game’s 1.0 release date was confirmed in a clip released on Wednesday by the game’s Finnish creators, Iceflake Studios.
In addition, the creators decided to mark the end of the beginning with a spectacular explosion.
The video begins with Game Director Lasse Liljedahl announcing that Surviving the Aftermath would depart early access on November 16th after two years, 20 updates, and a lot of community feedback.
A PC running an early access version of Surviving the Aftermath is set on fire, and numerous sticks of dynamite are produced before he talks about going out “with a bang.” Once “the end is here,” and a new era has begun,” the trailer reminds viewers.
Iceflake Studios’ Surviving the Aftermath puts players in charge of a post-apocalyptic settlement, published by Paradox Interactive.
Their choices will significantly impact whether or not this new society can rise from the ashes. The game can be compared to the antithesis of State of Decay in terms of gameplay.
However, most of the action revolves around creating, growing, and maintaining the player’s burgeoning community while sure identified survivors go out and scout for supplies and destroy dangers.
Their survival will be predicated on balancing food production with radiation and other post-apocalyptic threats such as raiders and mutant animals.
Since its debut at Paradox Interactive’s PDXCON 2019 event, Surviving the Aftermath has undergone significant changes. So much so that after over two years of early access, some players say it’s an entirely different game.
Vehicles, quests, and outposts are just a few of the new features coming to the game. To say nothing of completely reworking every aspect of the gameplay, including exploration, combat, economy, and the entire technological tree.
The official release will include even more enhancements. Surviving the Aftermath’s late-game features will be considerably expanded with the 1.0 “Endgame” upgrade.
A new questline will disclose what happened during the apocalypse, as well as potential late-game settlement alternatives. In addition, they’ll have to get their base ready for a brand-new endgame danger.
When Surviving the Aftermath exits early access in three weeks, both new and old players will have something to look forward to.
