Lionsgate’s much awaited sequel to John Wick 4 has shown its first picture. Even while it doesn’t provide much new about the picture other than the fact that Keanu Reeves’s eponymous assassin Wick will return in a stylised cloud of candles, this first look is stunning and showcases the unique aesthetic that these flicks are known for. On March 24, 2023, the popular gun-fu franchise will return for the first of its two-part finale. For several years, Keanu Reeves has delighted moviegoers as John Wick, a retired hitman out for vengeance. When Wick’s beloved pet dog becomes a target, he returns to the world of subterranean assassins.
This time around, director Chad Stehelski is keeping a lot of things under wraps when it comes to the plot, but Wick is expected to reveal even more about the High Table and continue his war against the underbelly of the assassins’ guild. For Wick, who has been on the run for years, this might be a chance to finally come to terms with his past & move on. Wick appears to be taking a breather from the action in the new image, allowing him to reflect on the events that have occurred thus far.
Because of all that has transpired since his first outing, the assassin is well-prepared for this one, having nearly bit the big one last time. In that one moment of peace, he calculates his next move to put a stop to it all, but for someone with that many victims, there’s no happy ending in sight. Laurence Fishburne, Ian McShane, Lance Reddick, Bill Skarsgrd, Clancy Brown, Donnie Yen, Shamier Anderson, Hiroyuki Sanada, Scott Adkins, and Rina Sawayama will join Reeves for this fourth trip.
Derek Kolstad, the series’ longstanding writer, won’t be writing this time around, so Michael Finch and Shay Hatten, along with director Joseph Stehelski, will be tasked with carrying on the franchise’s legacy. John Wick’s universe continues to grow as the new spinoff Ballerina starring Ana de Armas is also on its way. Recent addition to the team is Emerald Fennell, a young assassin in search of vengeance for the murder of her family, who was featured in the book Promising Young Woman. On the 24th of March 2023, John Wick 4 will be released in cinemas.
