Season 2 Episode 9 Recap: Tokyo Revengers
The preceding episode included several flashbacks to Takemichi’s youth. In the aftermath of Akkun’s passing, Takemichi made his first future-altering promise. He felt the weight of the world on his shoulders as he climbed the shabby stairs of a seedy back alley. Little by bit, they all welcomed him and gave him the strength to keep fighting when he was terrified and nervous but still wanted to save everyone. In spite of his conviction that he could not alter the course of events, he tried anyhow. Takemichi finally hits Taiju after getting punched around for the better part of the episode.
For some reason, Taiju thinks he can underestimate Takemichi, but after one punch, he’s on his knees, and Takemichi convinces Hakkai that he can alter the course of events if he’s willing to sacrifice his life. Fighting hard hurts less than being alone, he assures him cheerfully. Hakkai is moved by Takemichi’s remarks; he starts crying and begs him to help him. Hakkai reveals to him that he wants to save Yuzuha but is afraid to stand up to Taiju. Hakkai reveals that Yuzuha has been the one guarding him all along, not the other way around. He lied about everything.
