Review of Episode 7 of Season 2 of Tokyo Revengers
We first meet Taiju, who is so overtaken by his emotions that he plans to kill his sister. He clearly has mental health issues if he can say he loves his family but yet thinks it would be preferable to end Yuzuha’s life. In response to Takemichi’s reprimand, Taiju claims that she was the one who tried to stab him and that he should beat her as well. As usual, when Takemichi finds Hakkai cowering in fear of his brother, he tries to intervene and takes a beating. Mitsuya steps in and saves Takemichi and Yuzuha for a little while as a result. Next, he engages Taiju in combat, but, unlike Takemichi, he doesn’t end up losing and doesn’t deal any lasting damage to Taiju. Chifuyu is eventually freed by Mitsuya and integrated into the gang.
Chifuyu phoned Mitsuya without notifying Takemichi that Kisaki had made the same decision to betray them. To make matters worse for Takemichi and his allies, Inui launches a surprise attack on Mitsuya and Kokonoi sides with Taiju. After all the major players have arrived, the real fighting can begin. Hakkai’s secret dread of Taiju, which keeps him from facing his brother in a fair fight, was revealed at the end of the story. In addition, Takemichi’s bravery is on full display once more, reinforcing his one redeeming characteristic despite his many flaws: he is not a quitter. The dispute between the Shiba siblings drags on for too long since there is no resolution to the conflict at the end of this episode. It’s disappointing that we have to wait another week to find out what the writers’ answers are to some of our questions.
