On Friday, January 26, scanlations of One Piece chapter 1073 were made available, heralding the arrival of a highly anticipated issue packed with confirmations and fresh discoveries. The chapter’s introduction of Stussy as the unknown ally Dr Vegapunk had phoned a few issues earlier is very fascinating. One of the Gorosei is finally named in the last minutes of Chapter 1073 of One Piece, which is a fascinating development in and of itself. Also interesting is the fact that the Gorosei with the scar on his left cheek, who is now known as Saint Jegarcia Saturn, appears to be on his way to Egghead Island to assume leadership of the Seraphim. Even with so few issues published, the Egghead Island Arc has already established itself as one of the greatest post-time-skip arcs, and this newest instalment does not disappoint. Even with all the new information revealed in Chapter 1073 of One Piece, the absence of Bonney and Dr Vegapunk is barely apparent.
Markings made
On the cover of One Piece chapter 1073, we meet Dr Vegapunk, Caesar Clown, Vinsmoke Judge, and the Queen of the Beast Pirates, all members of MADS. Dr Vegapunk is seen taking great pride in his creation of tank-mounted flower cannons on the offending cover page, while his other MADS researchers look on in apparent contempt. In the next chapter (1073), we learn more about Stussy’s conflict with Rob Lucci. While Kaku is out cold, Lucci remarks on how hard it is to take Stussy’s genuine loyalties. She then employs a stealth manoeuvre from Paper Arts: Heartbreak After Image to get behind Lucci. She makes fun of him for wanting to murder anything that doesn’t make sense to him.
She then presses the Sea Prism Stone lipstick tube against Lucci’s body and taunts him, saying, “You’re so crazy.” Because of this, Stussy is able to put him to sleep with a bite, just like she did with Kaku. Stussy says that she appreciates their strength and that it would have been foolish to challenge them in a fair battle. Brook is confused as to why the CP0 agents are fighting one another, and she begs their forgiveness as Lucci drops to the floor. While Stussy is radioing the Vegapunk Satellites to report her achievement, Zoro observes that this is a friendly fire. The Satellites applaud her efforts in Chapter 1073 of One Piece, but Usopp and Nami demand an explanation. Shaka continues by saying that Lucci was caught off guard and that Stussy’s allegiance to the Vegapunks was concealed during his whole 20-year career as an agent.
He stresses that they never intended for Stussy to become a member of CP0, but that is what happened. The latter then reminds Shaka that the Seraphim would not cease attacking if she orders them to since her authority is on par with Lucci’s. This causes Zoro and Brook to intervene to stop the Seraphim attack, and Vegapunk Lilith and Vegapunk Edison to walk outside and issue the command. When Brook observes that several of the children appear familiar, Zoro singles out one of them. Then, in chapter 1073 of One Piece, Lilith and Edison infiltrate the battlefield via a hole in the side of the Lab Stratum structure and make a distress call to the Seraphim. But S-Hawk spots her and begins to pursue her, so Zoro takes out his blades to protect her.
Here, Zoro makes fun of S-Hawk by pointing out that the Seraphim genuinely has a spark of humanity, unlike Mihawk. Zoro still wonders what he is as the struggle comes to a close, while Edison commands the Seraphim to cease. However, it appears that he has paid with his own life since S-Shark fired a laser beam in his direction. Lucky for everyone, Sanji shows up just in time to rescue Edison and join Zoro and the others. While Zoro is asking for clarification on the Seraphim’s nature in Chapter 1073 of One Piece, the Seraphim gather together in peace with the rest of the crew. Once reinforcements come, Stussy will report to Shaka that she tied Lucci and Kaku with Sea Prism Stone and essentially removed them from the battle. Shaka convinces Stussy to join them, but Usopp points out that they can’t take any more passengers.
Lots of backup and new information
Luffy and Chopper spend the rest of the issue searching for Dr Vegapunk and Jewelry Bonney but to no avail. The disappearance of Dr Vegapunk’s primary “Stella” corpse is described as a “really unexpected occurrence” by the narrator. Later in the chapter, the focus moves to Whitebeard’s native Sphinx Island. After returning to Sphinx Island, Marco (chapter 1073) learns that the Marines attacked the town while he was away. He tries to apologise to the kids who are breaking the news to him, but they tell him it’s not their fault and that the Marines are the worst since they’re only here for Whitebeard’s loot and they’re acting more like pirates than soldiers. A Marine officer is then shown bringing troops into the town, informing the villagers that they have no rights because Sphinx Island isn’t associated with the Government and that they won’t get injured if they play nice.
The officer claims to have little doubt that Whitebeard concealed his riches here, and he further claims that refusing to provide its location would be seen as a rebellion on their part. The youngsters in One Piece chapter 1073 say there is no treasure since the vile officer has threatened to shoot them one by one if they don’t talk. The cop is prompted to wonder if it’s prudent to be so belligerent without Marco after seeing an elderly lady call them monsters for treating them this way simply because they can’t pay the World Government. The officer then appears to have no opposition as he prepares the elderly woman for death. But suddenly Edward Weevil shows up there, and he and his men are able to push back the officer (now known as Captain Ratel) and his men.
After the Marines have left the island and called for backup, the situation returns to the present. When Marco hears the youngsters of the village claim that if Weevil hadn’t shown up, the community would have been destroyed, he calls Weevil a hero and expresses his gratitude that everyone is safe in One Piece chapter 1073. But then Weevil’s mom, Miss Bakkin, is seen screaming out to Marco, telling him that this isn’t over, and wondering who he believes came to the island as reinforcements. She continues by saying that Weevil was taken by Admiral Ryokugyu, who then demanded that Marco return her son and turn over Whitebeard’s loot.
his intriguing piece of narration also establishes that Bakkin is, in fact, Miss Buckingham Stussy, as well as disclosing that she is “MADS’ Resident Freeloader,” a “self-proclaimed scientist,” and an ex-member of the Rocks Pirates. This seems to corroborate that Bakkin, who has teased as the fifth female member of MADS in a cover story some months ago, is in fact the member revealed in One Piece chapter 1073. Then Bakkin starts crying about how terrible it is that Weevil has to go to jail for doing what was right by his father and the villagers in the village, while Marco says he at least appreciates their efforts to keep the island safe. The former becomes vehemently defensive, insisting that she can “hear it in his tone” that he doubts that Weevil is Whitebeard’s son. She goes on to say that she is acquainted with Dr Vegapunk, who is in a position to provide proof.
All signs point to this being more evidence that she is the fifth female member of MADS. In the last chapter of One Piece, ch.1073, the viewpoint changes to a fleet of ships belonging to the World Government and the Marines. There is a scene in which Admiral Kizaru is chatting with a regular soldier about the food and tea that have been prepared for the visitor. He asks them whether they tested for poison, which the Marine confirms, forcing Kizaru to fire him. Kizaru then brings the visitor some snacks and tea and inquires as to whether or not he is familiar with Dr Vegapunk. Then it’s revealed that the visitor is a Gorosei—more particularly, the one with the grey dreadlocks and the scar on his left cheek. As the issue concludes, his true identity as Saint Jay Garcia Saturn (waiting for an official translation) is revealed as he states he once met Dr Vegapunk a long time ago while calling current circumstances “such a pity.”
Briefly, then
Overall, One Piece chapter 1073 is a really fascinating and dense issue with a lot of stuff to study and analyse. The naming for the first time of one of the five Gorosei and the apparent connection in their naming method to that of the Ancient Weapons is by far the most fascinating feature of the issue. Bakkin’s identity as Miss Buckingham Stussy has been confirmed, and the implication that she is the fifth female member of MADS is equally thrilling. Although various fans’ efforts had already pretty well proven her identity as such, it’s good to see what should be an official confirmation comes the chapter’s official publication.
