The Japanese publication of Boruto Chapter 77 on January 20, 2022, shows that Kawaki has gone rogue and locked off Naruto in what looks to be a separate dimension. In order to approach Boruto without being emotionally impeded, he has taken this unexpected step. Because Jigen brought up Kawaki to be Isshiki Ohtsutsuki’s vessel, Kawaki naturally resents the rest of the Ohtsutsuki family. As we saw in the last chapter, Kawaki’s aggression was sparked by Boruto’s mental connection to Ohtsutsuki Momoshiki. In the most recent chapter, this ultimately led to Kawaki sealing Naruto.
In chapter 77 of Boruto, Kawaki ensnares Naruto
Hinata and Naruto are seen preparing the meal in Boruto chapter 77, “Time Drawing Near,” however Kawaki is nowhere to be found. At this time, he sneaks into Naruto’s house without raising suspicion because of his chakra disguising abilities. Kawaki sits down and signals for Naruto to come to sit with him. He then thanks him for bringing him back to life after he had been dead for so long. Naruto, however, insists that he was always OK and that he has always been a selfless hero who is prepared to give his life to save those he cares about. Kawaki continues by saying that Naruto has become the centre of his universe as a result of his actions, but that in the current order of things, heroes like Naruto are the first to be eliminated. He believes Ohtsutsuki to be the primary offender.
Kawaki claims that the ninjas ultimately perish because of their inherent weakness. But rather than let himself be slain, he has decided to turn the Ohtsutsuki’s abilities against them. The following procedure required him to visit Naruto before beginning the assignment. Kawaki admits that Boruto is his goal, and despite Hinata’s and Naruto’s best efforts to dissuade him — to the point of Hinata saying that Kawaki will have to murder them first — he does not change his mind. Never one to wait for approval, he is determined to finish what others have abandoned. This is why in chapter 77 of Boruto, Kawaki is seen establishing a gateway that draws in Naruto and Hinata. He knows what he is going to do is terrible and that the person he loves the most will detest him for it, but he is ready to die for it after he has completed the task at hand.
So why is it that Kawaki has it in for Boruto?
Kawaki continues to press Momoshiki for an identity revelation in Boruto chapter 77. Kawaki puts himself on Boruto and demands Momoshiki’s appearance, but Shikamaru steps in and makes him think about how Naruto would handle the issue, which briefly stops him. Even Nevertheless, Kawaki’s undying loyalty to Naruto cannot be denied. But as was previously said, his goal is to kill Boruto. Boruto chapter 77 reveals that Kawaki plans to kill Boruto due to the presence of Momoshiki within him. It was Boruto’s intention to turn Momoshiki into a vessel after he killed him, and so he implanted Karma within him before he killed him. Because of this, strange powers began to manifest in Boruto. Nonetheless, Momoshiki was able to materialise and take command of his body for brief interludes as the mark progressed. This implies Momoshiki will have the option to reincarnate in the future and return as a threat to the ninja community.
