A series of flashbacks reveal Jinbe pleading with Luffy to help him rescue Ace, Jinbe consoling Luffy after Ace’s death, Luffy inviting Jinbe to join the crew, and finally, Luffy’s relief at having Jinbe back with the Strawhats. The combat sequence between Jinbe and Who’s Who in Episode 1040 of One Piece does not disappoint fans who have been waiting for it. Who’s Who takes the initial swing, firing a Fang Pistol at Jinbe. When Jinbe attempts to employ Armament Haki to prevent the anguish and bloodshed that the attack causes, he fails. A little later, he opts to avoid taking any damage by dodging the attackers. Who’s Who may have been right in his assessment that Jinbe should do so since his Haki is lacking, but the reality is that initially, Jinbe wasn’t even trying. After hearing Who’s Who makes racist comments about the Fishmen and how they were an enslaved race, Jinbe becomes outraged. He seems immune to Who’s a relentless onslaught.
