Did you know that when it comes to the holidays, anything goes? Yes, that’s the truth. And this year’s fans will get their own slice of the impossible in the form of the upcoming The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Surprise, as it appears like Michael Rooker will be making a special appearance as Yondu for the holiday episode. On November 25, 2022, at the commencement of the Christmas season, Disney+ will debut the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special. The events in the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 take place before those of the holiday special, which was filmed concurrently with the feature picture. In this episode, the Guardians will embark on a journey with a festive twist.
Yondu isn’t the only familiar face making a comeback in the special; Chris Pratt’s Star-Lord, Dave Bautista’s Drax, Karen Gillan’s Nebula, Pom Klementieff’s Mantis, Bradley Cooper’s Rocket, Vin Diesel’s Groot, and Sean Gunn’s Kraglin will all be there as well. Fans of the Guardians of the Galaxy films will recall that Yondu gave his life to protect his adopted son Peter Quill (Star-Lord) in the second film. Despite the uncertainty of his role, his reappearance will be a good surprise for Star-Lord, who is having a tough holiday season after Gamora’s death in Avengers: Endgame.
It wasn’t until the entire cast list for The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special was released that it was revealed that Michael Rooker will be returning for the special. In the Christmas special, Star-traveling Lord’s companions will make an effort to cheer up their fallen leader. In the special, Drax and Mantis will travel to Hollywood to soak in the holiday cheer. Kevin Bacon joins in on the celebration, falling prey to Drax and Mantis’ holiday-themed antics. The special’s teaser was published Wednesday, giving viewers a sneak peek at the festive mayhem to come. The revelation of Yondu’s resurrection is shocking, what with the character’s established demise in the film’s world and James Gunn’s repeated assurances that he would not resurrect the character.
Gunn thought that doing so would be a disservice to the powerful emotional effect of his self-sacrifice in the sequel. Yondu will probably make an appearance in flashback form. On November 25th, 2022, the Disney+ special will debut.
