Ralph Macchio, star of the Karate Kid and Cobra Kai, talked about his autobiography, Waxing On The Karate Kid & Me!, in a recent interview. Even though we spent most of our time talking about Macchio’s book, we couldn’t let the interview end without asking him about the future of the popular Netflix show and whether or not there will be the sixth season. A new chapter in the adventures of Danny, Johnny, and the rest of the gang has not been verified, although he did express “high confidence” that such an event will occur.
Nemiroff inquired during the conversation whether or not there has been official confirmation from Netflix of a Season 6 and whether or not he believed that a filming date for Season 6 was set in stone.
To this, Macchio replies, “no assurance,” but the odds of Part 6 are good. The only sure thing is that nothing is certain, right? For real. Nonetheless, there is a lot of trust and talk, but no formal statement. Nonetheless, I am in fine spirits, and I have a strong impression that the book will not hinder our chances. It’s good to have the opportunity to reflect on my almost 40-year journey as Daniel LaRusso and how he has served as a symbol of both nostalgia and modern relevance.
It’s rare to find a tale that has been going on for so long, and a character who has meant so much to so many people over so many generations, inspiring them and giving them something to strive for and hope for. Nemiroff said that she couldn’t believe it if there wasn’t an announcement on the show’s future soon, and Macchio agreed, saying just, “It would.” “Yes, please! You’re probably right, but we’ll have to see.” Cobra Kai Season 5 premiered on September 9, 2022, and had a total of 10 episodes. For context, both the fourth and fifth seasons of the show were announced by Netflix before the previous seasons ever aired. Currently, there has been no confirmation of a sixth season, despite the fact that “the season ends on a very major cliffhanger, so the lack of a follow-up would be stunning,” as Nemiroff put it.
Produced by Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz, and Hayden Schlossberg. Starring alongside Macchio in the series is the original Karate Kid actors William Zabka, Martin Kove, Yuji Okumoto, and Thomas Ian Griffith. Mary Mouser, Peyton List, Courtney Henggeler, Martin Kove, Gianni DeCenzo, Dallas Dupree Young, Alicia Hannah-Kim, Oona O’Brien, Griffin Santopietro, and series veteran Sean Kanan return from Karate Kid III as Mike Barnes round out the cast of Season 5. As of right now, you can watch all five seasons of Kobra Kai on Netflix.
