The production of Interior Chinatown, for which Hulu has ordered 10 episodes starring Jimmy O. Yang, is proceeding quickly. New cast members Ronny Chieng and Chloe Bennet have been added to the show’s call sheet. Willis Wu (played by Yang), an aspiring actor who supplements his acting income by waiting tables, is the protagonist of Interior Chinatown, an adaptation of Charles Yu’s best-selling novel of the same name.
After witnessing a real-life crime, which leads him to discover horrifying information about the crime organisation operating in Chinatown and uncover shocking truths about his family background, his dull existence in Chinatown suddenly becomes exciting. Chieng has been cast as Fatty Choi, Willis’ gregarious best friend who, in contrast to the show’s lead character, is much more confident being a regular guy; he, too, works at a restaurant but frequently makes out time to spice up his life by engaging in enjoyable activities like playing video games, hanging out with friends, and drinking, with a particular interest in malted beverages.
For her first major role, Bennet will portray Detective Lana Lee in a drama that formerly featured solely background actor Bruce Willis. It would appear that Lana has achieved all that Willis has ever sought for himself. Willis’s undying love for Lana despite her mysterious aura and outsized attitude. She possesses the perfect amount of self-assurance, introspection, and mystery to become the show’s missing component. When their on-screen personas collide, Lana and Willis get to establish an improbable alliance. Chieng is a senior journalist on Comedy Central’s The Daily Show and the star of the ABC Australia comedy Ronny Chieng: International Student.
He has a successful acting career as well as a comic one, with many stand-up specials available on Netflix. Doogie Kalua’loha, M.D., Ten Year Old Tom, and Young Rock are just a few of the series he’s guest starred on. A few of the movies he’s worked on include “Crazy Rich Asians,” “Godzilla vs. Kong,” and “Shang-Chi: Legend of the Ten Rings,” both from Marvel Studios. Bennet is most known for voicing the character of Daisy Johnson/Quake in multiple animated adaptations of the ABC superhero drama series Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. She has landed a role in the upcoming 3rd season of the critically acclaimed FXX comedy Dave.
Yu, the author, is the series creator, showrunner, and executive producer. Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok, Thor: Love and Thunder) will helm the premiere episode. For Rideback, Waititi co-executive produces with Dan Lin, Lindsey Liberatore, and Elsie Choi; for Participant, he does the same with Jeff Skoll, Miura Kite, and Garrett Basch; and for Dive, he does the same with Miura Kite, Garrett Basch, and Dan Lin. This series is produced by 20th Television exclusively for Hulu. Interior Chinatown is still in the very early stages of production, thus there is no release date set as of yet.
