IFC Films Has Bought the Rights to the Thriller “What Comes Around”

It was announced today by Deadline that IFC films have acquired the North American rights to What Comes Around, starring Grace Van Dien. The Amy Redford-directed flick, which was first named Roost, promotes itself as a suspenseful thriller with a number of unexpected plot turns. In it, a young woman named Anna (Van Dien) makes an unexpected internet buddy in the form of an older man (Kyle Gallner).

As Anna’s mother does all in her ability to keep her daughter away from this enigmatic older man, tensions rise and relationships are pushed to the test. The film has received mixed reviews since its debut at the Toronto International Film Festival under its original title, but many have praised Van Dien for her performance. Van Dien gained widespread attention over the summer for her role in Stranger Things, and she has continued her streak of spooky projects with this film and her latest virtual reality effort, Scream Parlor.
Fans of the Netflix sci-fi series got to know new characters in Season 4, including Van Dien’s Chrissy Cunningham and Joseph Quinn’s fan-favourite Eddie Munson.

Spoiler alert: Chrissy dies early in the fourth season, although she returns in flashbacks. Chrissy had the outward appearance of a popular girl, but her inner struggles with melancholy and her mother’s abuse made her a relatable character for her audience. Her portrayal as Chrissy in What Comes Around and future roles in films like The Fix and Aaah! Roach! has established her as one of Hollywood’s most promising newcomers. Jesse Garcia (Flamin’ Hot) will join Van Dien and Jennifer Gallner (Scream) in the film. the script was written by Scott Organ. As a producer, Redford works with Eden Wurmfeld (Kissing Jessica Stein, The Hammer) and Lynda Weinman.

Produced by Organ, Katy Bettner, Geralyn Dreyfous, Jeff Hays, Charlie Pigott, Diane Stewart, and Jamie Wolf in an executive capacity. Eager to get started with the prestigious organisation, For many years, IFC Films has been a staunch advocate for independent storytelling, as Redford put it. To be included among them fills me with immense appreciation and happiness. The movie What Comes Around is scheduled to premiere in select theatres and on VOD in February 2023, with AMC+ owning exclusive streaming rights beginning in May of that year.
