The announcement that HBO has renewed Industry for the third season means that Pierpoint & Co will once again throw open its doors, revealing the brutal world of banking and trade. Given the show’s very positive reception in its second season, which concluded on September 19, the news doesn’t come as much of a surprise. The series follows a group of young professionals as they struggle to make their way into the economic world. Seasons 1 and 2 introduced viewers to a bunch of new college grads working in banking who were all hoping to make it big in the industry. When the stock market crashed in 2008, the newcomers were left to scratch and battle for survival. Season 2 followed a year of work experience, during which time the graduates matured and set out on their own.
Now that Pierpoint’s entire existence is in jeopardy thanks to new management, it’s evident that only the toughest will make it. No official casting for Season 3 of Industry has been revealed, however, most of the series regulars will likely return. Recurring cast members Sarah Parish, Nicholas Bishop, Sagar Radia, Mark Dexter, and Caoilfhionn Dunne were joined by newcomers Myha’la Herrold, Marisa Abela, Harry Lawtey, David Jonsson, Ken Leung, Conor MacNeill, Alex Alomar Akpobome, Indy Lewis, Katrine de Candole, Jay Duplass, Sonny Poon Tip, and Adam Levy in. It’s hardly surprising that Industry has found an audience, given the popularity of series about corporate life in recent years. Succession is simply the latest in a long line of entrepreneurial-spirit-based dramas that have found an eager audience, but the genre isn’t limited to written works.
HBO’s Senior Vice President of Programming, Kathleen McCaffrey, has acknowledged the show’s success, saying that Season 2 of Industry “[reached] new heights, cementing its status as a buzzy hit with addictive storytelling, layered characters, a breakneck pace, and keen observations about contemporary workplace dynamics.” Jami O’Brien serves as a writer and executive producer with the show’s creators, Konrad Kay and Mickey Down. Jane Tranter, David P. Davis, Ryan Rasmussen, and BBC’s Ben Irving are executive producers for HBO/BBC among Bad Wolf Productions’ other staff members. Additionally, Edo Ferretti produces the show. The show’s writing staff is full: Matthew Barry, Zara Meerza, Joseph Charlton, and Charly Evon Simpson all contributed to episodes. Recent board members include Birgitte Staermose, Isabella Eklöf, and Caleb Femi.
Season 3 of Industry has not yet been given a release date.
