Jesus Revolution, written by the same team behind 2018’s I Can Only Imagine, is about uniting people across generational and cultural lines by challenging stereotypes and prejudice. Lionsgate has unveiled a fresh new teaser for their next true story picture, which will be released in cinemas on Friday, February 24, 2023. Greg Laurie (Joel Courtney), a young guy in 1970 looking for purpose, is at the centre of Jesus’ Revolution. He encounters Lonnie Frisbee (Jonathan Roumie), a charismatic hippie street preacher, and Pastor Chuck Smith (Kelsey Grammer), a guy with a negative view of hippies who are looking for a method to rebuild his faltering church, whom he believes may assist him.
In spite of their disagreements, the two clergymen come up with a plan to revitalise Chuck’s church by inviting hippies to the sermons, which comes as a surprise to the more traditional members of the congregation. A “revival of radical and fresh love” characterises the movement that emerges when the two groups gradually join together. In 1971, TIME magazine called this uprising a “Jesus Revolution.” In the latest promotional video, we see the congregation and Lonnie conspiring to attract hippies to the pastor’s church. It’s evident that many of the established churchgoers are worried by the influx of new faces, but Chuck assures them that the exit is always available if they ever change their minds.
A voiceover from Chuck states, “This is your home, and I want you to tell all your friends about it,” at the end of the 2-minute and 5-second clip, in which he describes his church as a haven for only those who might feel misunderstood or criticised. Others in the Jesus Revolution cast besides Roumie, Grammer, and Courtney include Kimberly Williams-Paisley and Anna Grace Barlow. Both Jon Erwin and Brent McCorkle take credit for helping the picture. Co-authoring the script with Jon Gunn, Erwin also contributes to the film as a writer. On February 24th, 2023, Jesus Revolution will have its theatrical debut. On Wednesday, February 22nd, there will be a sneak peek screening of the film.
