Earlier this year, Marvel debuted a new superhero, Moon Knight, on Disney+. He has connections to the Gods of Ancient Egypt. Oscar Isaac portrayed both mercenary Marc Spector and his softer, gift store employee alter ego, Steven Grant. After the credits rolled, we were introduced to Jake Lockley, the third alter, leaving the season finale open to the possibility of a season two. Lockley, in introducing the third altar, also disclosed that the three are still beholden to the service of the Egyptian deity Khonshu, whose voice is provided by F. Abraham Murray.
Even though Marvel had advertised the show as a limited series, its success has prompted discussions of a second season. While Marvel’s usual silence on renewal rumours persists, Isaac has provided a little more context. According to ComicBook, the actor has reportedly had positive conversations with the studio about bringing back Moon Knight. Regarding a possible comeback, Isaac stresses the need for the tale to be compelling: We don’t know [if there will be a second season], but we’re talking about it. Honestly, it’s about the story. Is there a story worth telling? Is it interesting? Will I feel embarrassed about it when it comes out? So it’s just about, is there something worth pouring everything you have into? And with Moon Knight, that was very much about that. It’s cliche, but it’s true that there have been specific conversations. They were pleasant. The spill.
Steve Weintraub recently interviewed Isaac on the second season of Moon Knight and the upcoming graphic book Head Wounds: Sparrow. In response to Weintraub’s follow-up question about what he’s filming next, Isaac tried to dampen excitement about a second season by saying, “We can’t definitively say that [there’s a Season 2].” He continued, “I hope so. You know we’ll see what happens. But at the moment there’s no official word.”
Even before this, Isaac had made people want to see how far the show went.
The two creators appeared in a TikTok posted by Mohammed Diab, a writer on the show, and were more than glad to give the impression that the show will be back for a second season. Isaac’s response to the subject of a second season was, “Why else would we be in Cairo?” Whether or not we get a second season and what its tale will look like is still up in the air. If there is a second season, it would be great to see Layla El-Faouly (May Calamawy), Marc’s wife and the Scarlet Scarab, return.
No formal word has been released as of yet.
