Production on Riverdale’s seventh and final season on The CW has officially begun. Writer and co-executive producer Ted Sullivan posted the news on Instagram. The first photo of the season is included in the post, with the slate taking up most of the picture. Sullivan wrote, “Such a fantastic season is going shortly to viewers,” as the description for this photo. He also extended his appreciation to Riverdale’s creator, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa.
The end of Season 6 was a real mind-blowing cliffhanger. The season’s antagonist, Percival Pickens (Chris O’Shea), was dispatched in the last two episodes when the group sent him back in time to where he belonged.
However, Percival dealt one more blow by redirecting a comet such that it would smash into Riverdale. Thanks to her enhanced abilities, Cheryl (Madelaine Petsch) was able to deflect the comet, but the resulting time warp threw the whole town back to the 1950s. Even though it caused amnesia throughout the community, Jughead (Cole Sprouse) is the only one who remembers anything about it. We don’t know much about the forthcoming season’s narrative at this moment, but we should learn more as we get closer to the season’s debut.
The time leap, however, will be a major plot point throughout the season. Aguirre-Sacasa also previously announced that the opening episode will be named “Don’t Worry, Darling,” following the show’s tradition of referencing movies and series, as well as borrowing from a movie set around the same time period. Back in 2017, when Riverdale originally aired, the town was in shock when a murder mystery unfolded. When we first meet our main protagonists, they are all senior year of high school and coping with very standard issues for their age group. But it never shied away from exploring the show’s subject matter’s darker aspects.
Throughout its run, the programme gained a reputation for its outlandish storylines, which included a wicked Dungeons & Dragons-style game, a cult that harvested human organs, yearly musical episodes, an alternate world called “Rivervale,” and much more. Yet, the show has persevered to the point where it has aired 115+ episodes and is still going strong as it enters its last season. Petsch, Sprouse, Reinhart, Mendes, Apa, Cott, Morgan, Westbrook, Melton, Aguirre-Sacasa and Danielle Iman co-wrote the Season 7 opening episode, which was directed by Ronald Paul Richard. Season 7 of Riverdale has yet to have a premiere date, however, it is widely anticipated to air somewhere in the middle of 2023.
