Hulu has released the complete trailer for their forthcoming miniseries Welcome to Chippendales, which tells the story of one man’s disastrous attempt to achieve the American Dream. The series will premiere at the end of the year. Somen “Steve” Banerjee (Kumail Nanjiani) is the guy behind the groundbreaking adult business endeavour named after him, a male strip club. However, his rise to fame and fortune was doomed by his involvement in questionable dealings with not just money but even murder.
The teaser provides a glimpse into his transformation from an unknown man with a failing dance club and a dream into a well-known, ruthless businessman who would stop at nothing to ensure the continued success of his exotic dance club. In the new clip, we first meet Banerjee as he stocks shelves while daydreaming about “sheer grandeur.” He desires success so strongly that he declines the offer to become the store’s general manager instead of opening his own company. Seeing how many ladies enjoyed a male stripping performance, he realised this was the niche he needed to fill.
Then, he discovers his signature cuff and collar combination, as well as a dance partner and choreographer in Nick De Noia (Murray Bartlett). Chippendales are commonplace, and if Banerjee doesn’t screw up, he wants to rule the globe with the power of male stripping. Although everything seemed to be going so smoothly, there was still some underlying strain. As Banerjee and the violent De Noia fight for control of the corporation, the crooked Banerjee’s real colours emerge. The urge to rule the male stripping industry drives him to make whatever underhanded arrangement to ensure Chippendales’ continued success.
As the FBI draws in on Banerjee, Bartlett warns that “blood will pour,” signalling a tragic turn in the rule of the Chippendales. You’re a nasty guy, Mr Banerjee. That’s the trailer’s final statement, and it sums up the series’s central message. In addition to Nanjiani and Bartlett, the stellar cast of Welcome to Chippendales also includes Juliette Lewis and Annaleigh Ashford, with recurrent guest characters Quentin Plair, Robin de Jess, and Andrew Rannells, plus guest stars Nicola Peltz Beckham and Dan Stevens.
By teaming up with Robert Siegel, creator of the critically acclaimed sitcom Pam & Tommy, Hulu is trying to create another smash success for the streaming service. In addition to developing and co-running the programme, Siegel serves as an executive producer with Nanjiani and his co-showrunner Jenni Konner, series director Matt Shakman, producers Dylan Sellers, Nora Silver, and Emily V. Gordon, and co-writers Rajiv Joseph and Mehar Sethi. As well as Jacqui Rivera and Annie Wyman, Jacqui Rivera serves as co-executive producer. Hulu has slated the launch of Welcome to Chippendales for November 22. This means the wait time for fans is almost over.
