Mammals, James Corden’s new comedy-drama series, will soon premiere on Netflix. The new teaser video for the next series, available on Prime Video, features a healthy dose of both suspense and humour. The Corden we’re used to seeing in the teaser will be replaced with a new version. This is the mourning, more violent half of the character. In Mammals, Corden plays Jamie, a chef whose life comes crashing down as he learns certain truths about his pregnant wife, Amandine (Melia Kreiling). Corden seems at a loss for words in the preview as he tries to explain the current situation of his relationship.
His own sense of hopelessness is plain to see, yet he is not alone in experiencing a low point in his mental state. While Jaime and his brother-in-law Jeff (Colin Morgan) investigate, Jeff’s (Colin Morgan) own marriage to Jaime’s sister Lue begins to show signs of strain as a result of the search (Sally Hawkins). That leaves all three of them at a loss for how to put their connections into words. In response to Corden’s challenge to sum up his sentiments towards his partner using only three words, Jamie demonstrates that there simply aren’t just three. “Confusion, wrath, disbelief…” he says to start out. The expression on Jaime’s face as his wife replies, “I mean it’s only sex,” is captured brilliantly in the third.
His use of the word “Fury” to describe his reaction when we see him throw a punch in the trailer is spot on. “Stupefaction, trauma, Turmoil, misery, mayhem, confusion, and complete shock,” he continues. Also, Jamie is overheard uttering the words, “Love is impossible,” a statement he evidently thinks to be true. Since it was revealed in April that Corden will be leaving The Late Late Show in 2023, this series is his first major effort since then. Jez Butterworth, the winner of two Olivier Awards and a Tony Award as a screenwriter, discussed the series with Deadline in 2021 and provided some spoilers.

Who lights a fire under you, who encourages you to take risks and develop your identity? You’re going to die and be dead forever, and you’re never going to have sex again. The film Mammals was directed by Stephanie Laing and produced by Street Hassle, together with Vertigo Films and Fulwell 73. It’ll be a story about the ups and downs of marriage, with all its anguish, loss, tension, love, friendship, betrayal, and even a dash of magical realism.
The full season premiere of Mammals, consisting of six episodes, will begin streaming on November 11 exclusively on Prime Video.
