After a long absence, Grey’s Anatomy is bringing Jesse Williams back for a major role. The sixth episode of Season 19 will include him both as a director and a guest star. Williams’ comeback as Dr Jackson Avery is featured in the episode “When I Get to the Border,” which airs on NBC on November 3. Since 2009, Williams has portrayed Jackson on “General Hospital,” where viewers have seen him grow from an incompetent intern to a respected plastic surgeon to a doting father. In the spring of 2021, just before the debut of the show’s eighteenth season, Williams announced his departure from Grey’s Anatomy.
Season 17 brought the news that Jackson would be leaving for Boston. Williams made a surprising comeback as Jackson at the end of Season 18 where he reunited with his ex-girlfriend April and saw Dr Meredith Grey again (Ellen Pompeo). After Jackson leaves Grey Sloan Memorial at the end of season 18, Meredith remarks that she is “the last guy standing” in her residency class. Williams hinted at his comeback during a recent interview with E! News, stating, “Don’t want to get sniped in here, but I believe it’s quite probable that there will be a way that Jackson will resurface one way or another.” Williams said that he had met the interns for Season 19 and that he found them to be “reminiscent of when I came in a crop of four residents who had to learn the ropes,” referring to his first season on the programme.
They were stumbling and trying new things out, both onstage and off, as they tried to figure out what their place was in this massive, daunting set. Although Grey’s Anatomy brought Jesse Williams the most fame, he has also directed and appeared in numerous television series. As of late, he has directed episodes of ABC’s Rebel and acted as an executive producer on the 2021 Best Picture nominee Two Distant Strangers. He co-starred with Owen Wilson in Secret Headquarters on Paramount+ and with Reese Witherspoon in Your Place or Mine on Netflix.
For the last seventeen years, viewers have been able to tune in to ABC’s successful medical drama Grey’s Anatomy, which centres on the lives of surgical residents, interns, and attending physicians at Seattle’s Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital. In Grey’s Anatomy season 19, a new batch of interns at Grey Sloan will be put through the wringer as they try to save patients’ lives while juggling their own personal and professional life. Alexis Floyd, Adelaide Kane, Harry Shum Jr., Niko Terho, and Midori Francis portray the five new interns in the upcoming season. The nineteenth season debut of Grey’s Anatomy aired on ABC on October 6, 2022, and new episodes continue to run every Thursday at 9 o’clock.
