Spoiler Alert’s first official poster has arrived, and it looks like a tearjerker. Jim Parsons appears as Michael, an entertainment writer who, with the help of his new girlfriend Kit (a photographer), seeks to live out his romantic comedy ideal. The film is based on Michael Ausiello’s best-selling novel Spoiler Alert: The Hero Dies. Due to Kit’s fatal illness, the couple only has 14 years left together, and the film follows them from the beginning of their relationship until Kit’s untimely death at the age of 41 due to neuroendocrine carcinoma. Parsons has appeared in several films and television shows, including Ryan Murphy’s Hollywood and the Emmy-winning The Big Bang Theory on CBS.
Currently playing Thomas Wayne in Pennyworth, a comic book adaption, Aldridge has previously been in Fleabag and The Long Call. Sally Field plays Kit’s mom, Marilyn, while co-stars Bill Irwin and Jeffery Self play Kit’s dad and uncle, respectively. Michael Showalter, whose most famous film The Big Sick dealt with the delicate subject of love through a terrible disease journey, will helm this picture. In addition to helming the Oscar-winning The Lovebirds, Showalter helmed the film The Eyes of Tammy Faye, for which Jessica Chastain received the Best Actress award. Parsons, Showalter, Todd Spiewak, Alison Mo Massey, and Jordana Mollick serve as executive producers, while Ausiello, Eric Norsoph, and Jason Sokoloff serve as producers.
The script was co-written by David Marshall Grant and Dan Savage. Author for TV Guide and commentator for GMA, ET, and Today, among others, Ausiello has worked in the entertainment industry for quite some time. Presently, he is in charge of TVLine. Ausiello expressed his deepest condolences and gratitude to Cowan in a letter he wrote after his death in February 2015.
On December 2nd, Spoiler Alert will debut in limited theatres before expanding statewide on December 16th, courtesy of Focus Features.
