In the festive action-adventure comedy Red One, Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans will share the limelight with another seasoned talent. Deadline reports that in addition to the two established action actors, Kiernan Shipka will also have a significant part in the film. Though specifics of the high-profile undertaking remain under wraps, for the time being, its completion is anticipated in time for the 2023 Christmas season. Despite our limited current knowledge, Red One was pitched to media outlets as a world-hopping, four-cornered action-adventure comedy that would open up a fresh can of sand to the holiday genre.
However, writer/director Hiram Garcia had other ideas and aimed to combine the traditional elements more characteristic of an action movie. He has described it as “Hobbs meets Miracle on 34th Street,” and has hired Chris Morgan to write the script after working with him on Fast & Furious Presents Hobbs & Shaw and other films produced by Garcia’s Seven Buck Productions. Blockbuster filmmaker Jake Kasdan (Jumanji) has been brought on board. Prime Video won a bidding war for the project last year and now has the rights to produce it. According to reports, Amazon has ambitious ambitions for the film that will span across a variety of its divisions and businesses.
Kasdan and Melvin Mar’s The Detective Agency, Morgan’s Chris Morgan Productions, and Garcia, Johnson, and Dany Garcia’s Seven Bucks Productions serve as the film’s producers. The aforementioned Detective Agency will also have Sky Salem Robinson on board as a co-producer. When compared to Johnson and Evans, Liu has a more extensive list of acting roles on both television and in the movies. Although she is best recognised for her work in films like Kill Bill and the Charlie’s Angels trilogy opposite Cameron Diaz and Drew Barrymore, the Emmy-nominated actress first gained worldwide notoriety for her turn as the vicious lawyer Ling Woo in Ally McBeal.
In the television industry, she has co-starred alongside Johnny Lee Miller in the CBS series Elementary from 2012 to 2019 and has acted in the CW series Why Women Kill, for which she has also directed several episodes. She also has a lot coming up in the next couple of years, including Disney’s Strange World, Shazam! Fury of the Gods, and Kung Fu Panda 4. The release of Red One is presently scheduled for the winter of 2023.
