Those shoes fit all of us. There is a wedding we are obligated to attend, and the guest list includes folks we’d rather not see ever again. The new pictures for Prime Video’s The People We Hate at the Wedding, starring Ben Platt, Kristen Bell, and Allison Janney, convey that precise mood. The People We Hate at the Wedding is an upcoming film based on the 2016 novel by Grand Ginder of the same name. It follows Paul (Platt) and Alice (Bell), two siblings who, against their better judgement, decide to attend their estranged half-wedding. sister’s Meanwhile, their half-sister appears to be prospering with more money than she knows what to do, while the two of them are feeling less than content with their life and having financial troubles to boot.
They will go with their mom, Donna, to the English countryside for the wedding (Janney). In the first glimpses, it’s clear that the wedding day is bringing up a wide range of feelings for everyone involved. In one, Janney stands in the middle, guiding Bell and Platt’s characters along as they appear uncertain on the outside. There’s also a glimpse of Dustin Milligan’s (Schitt’s Creek) character shaking hands with Kristen Bell’s Alice on a plane, which may be a hint to a potential meet-cute. Paul and Alice are lifting a glass to one other, and in classic hilarious fashion, Alice rolls her eyes at her brother as she does so. Another picture focuses on the bridal party, a group of women in brilliantly colourful outfits headed by Cynthia Addai-(Spartacus) Robinson’s character as they stroll along a very European-looking street with Alice bringing up the caboose and sipping a bottle of champagne (who hasn’t been there?).
Last but not least, there is a picture of the two sets of parents who are being married looking shocked at something that is just out of the frame, most likely Alice chugging yet another glass of champagne. The script for Bob’s Burgers was adapted from the novel by Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin and Wendy Molyneux. Since they’ve also agreed to co-write the script for Deadpool 3, we have a clear notion of the tone of their next endeavour. Award-winning TV writer Claire Scanlon, whose credits include comedies including “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” “Fresh Off the Boat,” and “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt,” It’s directed by Kimmy Schmidt.
