The Electric State, directed by Anthony and Joe Russo and starring Millie Bobby Brown, has begun principal photography in Atlanta, Georgia, extending the successful collaboration between AGBO and Netflix established with this year’s The Gray Man. The screen adaptation will be based on Simon Stlenhag’s book of the same name. Little has been released about the film, so it’s still unclear how closely it will adhere to the source material. The Electric State, however, is reported to take place in a retro-futuristic setting and follows a young orphan as she journeys across the American West in quest of her brother with the help of a mysterious robot and an eccentric wanderer.
The film’s location, at once exhilarating and nostalgic, might lend itself to a number of spectacular and eye-catching graphics. In the film, Brown co-stars with Chris Pratt, who also worked with the Russo Brothers on Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. Stanley Tucci (The Lovely Bones) and Jason Alexander (The Nightmare Before Christmas) will be joined by Michelle Yeoh (who just featured in the smash blockbuster A24 film Everything Everywhere All at Once) in this project (Seinfeld). The cast of Succession includes Brian Cox (Succession) and Jenny Slate (Marcel the Shell with Shoes On), who are both attached to the film in unannounced roles.
The Electric State has an interesting idea based on a renowned novel and a brilliant cast and directors, so when it finally arrives on Netflix in the not-too-distant future, it may be another thrilling picture from the Russo Brothers. The Russo Brothers, who have directed some of the greatest MCU movies, will be in charge of this one. The script was adapted by longtime writers and producers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely. In addition to directing, Mike Larocca, Chris Castaldi, and Patrick Newall will be producing the film with the Russo brothers.
The Electric State was produced by Jeff Ford, Christopher Markus, and Stephen McFeely, with additional executive producers Angela Russo-Otstot, Jake Aust, and Geoff Haley. The Russo Brothers’ AGBO producing banner will oversee the film’s creation. Studios have worked with Netflix before, producing movies including Chris Hemsworth’s Extraction and Ryan Gosling, Chris Evans, and Ana de Armas’ The Gray Man. AGBO will also create Extraction 2, the sequel to the successful film, alongside The Electric State. The Electric State has not yet been given a definitive release date because filming is still in its early phases.
