You’ve had plenty of time to prepare to head back to The White Lotus. An official teaser for the 2nd season of the Mike White–created anthology series has been released, offering viewers a taste of what they can expect when the show returns to HBO on October 30.
Tanya McQuoid (Jennifer Coolidge), the undisputed ruler of Season 1 and one of just two returning characters, is shown having the time of her life on a boat. Viewers arrive in Sicily, Italy, and check into the hotel that will serve as the season’s epicentre.
From this point on, we’ll be interacting with a brand-new cast of characters. The tense romance between Aubrey Plaza and Will Sharpe’s Spillers is on full display, as is the beginning of a once-in-a-lifetime journey shared by the male members of the Di Grasso family (F. Murray Abraham, Adam DiMarco, and Michael Imperioli). This may be about creating cherished memories with your loved ones, but Imperioli’s character appears to have other motives in mind. After bringing her secretary Portia (Haley Lu Richardson) on their romantic Italian trip, Tanya causes friction with her husband Greg (Jon Gries), who you may recall from the first season.
Meanwhile, Meghann Fahy and Theo James’s characters, the Babcocks, want to relax and invite the Spillers to do the same. Lying, mayhem and deaths will be front and centre as characters drink, do drugs, and make poor choices during the forthcoming season. It was stated in August 2021 that the programme would be returning, and in January 2022, the set location and the number of cast members were disclosed. It’s no surprise that HBO was fast to re-up on the title. The series received 11 nods and five wins at this year’s Emmys, including Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series & Outstanding Directing for a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie.
In total, eight of the film’s performers were nominated for Oscars for their roles, with Coolidge and Murray Bartlett ultimately taking home the trophy for Best Supporting Actress and Best Supporting Actor. The early September teaser provided us with a taste of the Season 2 high life, but it still left many questions unanswered. Each of the season’s main protagonists is highlighted in today’s teaser, making it seem complete.
