The Straw Hat Pirates were caught off guard by Dr Vegapunk’s unexpected arrival, and now things are really heating up. Synopsis of “One Piece” Chapter 1061
The Germa 66 and Caesar Clown are shown taking off from the scene of the conflict between Katakuri and Oven on the cover of the most recent chapter. The chapter opens with Luffy rescuing Chopper and Jewelry Bonney from an explosion. The Straw Hats were happy that everyone was safe, but Jewelry Bonney yelled that danger still lurked just below them. As it turned out, the mysterious object was a giant marine behemoth that was going to devour the Thousand Sunny. The Thousand Sunny was launched into the air, but it was able to dodge the sea creature’s onslaught. Zoro said the massive, steely water monster resembles a shark. Jinbe warned Luffy and the others to stay still, but as they landed roughly, they all plunged into the water. Franky is asked to take the helm when Jinbe requests his help in getting to their location. Franky stepped up to the wheel and started turning the propellers in an effort to speedily escape the mechanical shark.
The Thousand Sunny sank after being hit by missiles fired by the mechanical shark, taking with it the remainder of the crew. Jinbe was trying to rescue Luffy, Chopper, and Jewelry Bonney from the water when he heard the explosion. When Jinbe came back up to the surface, he saw that the explosion had generated a huge current. Jinbe was suddenly confronted by a metal shark whose mouth contained a cannon. Jinbe warned Luffy and the others to hold their breath as they prepared to swim away from the oncoming onslaught. Strong waves prevented the Straw Hat Pirates from climbing out of the ocean. Thereupon, a robot from the Vega Force 1 showed up and punched the metal shark. Tashigi calls the youngsters to the island where the G-14 Naval Base is located and tells them it’s time to take their medication. Tashigi is a reference to the marines’ medicine-fed giant offspring.
When one of the kids remarked that they seemed much smaller, Tashigi only said that she didn’t recognise them. Tashigi was approached by Vice Admiral Doll, the G-14’s commander, who wanted a moment alone with him. Doll brought up Helmeppo’s constant complaining and begged Tashigi to do something about it. The fact that Tashigi’s dearest buddy is in danger makes him feel compassion for Helmeppo. And Koby, her junior marine and friend, worries her just as much. Later in the story, Rear Admiral Prince Grus is approached by Helmeppo and Hibari who beg him to listen to their worries. Prince Grus declines Helmeppo’s request to travel to Pirate Island because he believes it to be Blackbeard’s territory. They will be surrounded by pirates very quickly if he accepts to go with Helmeppo. Despite this, Helmeppo urges Prince Grus to dispatch a Seraphim due to the proximity to Egghead Island.
But Prince Grus turned down Helmeppo again and advised him to calm down since they can’t do anything right now because Drake is still gone. Meanwhile, within a cave, Luffy, Jinbe, Chopper, and Bonney have reassembled. When Luffy doesn’t recognise Jewelry Bonney, she’s taken aback. The two of them spent the better part of two years in the Sabaody Archipelago, and she is a member of the Worst Generation Pirates. Notwithstanding, Bonney expressed gratitude to him for preventing her death. Even still, she emphasised that they remained adversaries. Inquiring further, she asks why Luffy’s hair, which was shown as white on the wanted posters, is actually brown. Luffy tells Bonney that, when he’s entirely at ease, his hair takes on that style, which Bonney finds incomprehensible. Then, when Bonney inquired as to the whereabouts of the rest of Luffy’s crew, the latter’s surprise was compounded by the fact that the Knight of the Sea was present.
After Bonney had finished her sentence, Jinbe chimed in, asking what had happened to her own crew. Bonney replied that she had come alone and that a metal shark had eaten her ship. To change the subject, Bonney said that she was hungry, to which Luffy and Chopper both nodded in agreement. Although Luffy and Chopper were overjoyed to locate a restaurant on the government-controlled island of Egghead, their excitement was cut short by Bonney. In addition, Bonney explains that Dr. Vegapunk’s research lab is located on the island and that Vegapunk is the primary motivation for her visit. While Franky, Nami, Robin, Zoro, Sanji, and Brook watch, another enormous robot materialises and grasps the Thousand Sunny in its mechanical arms. After overcoming the robot’s base instincts, a woman emerges and says, “That metal shark was another failure on my side.” The lady resumes her monologue about how she gave the metal shark orders to scout, report, and fire, all while she continues to try to devour ships as if the Straw Hats were not present.
Franky praises Vegapunk for helping them out, but the latter quickly points out their naiveté.
Unsurprisingly, Dr. Vegapunk is employed by the government despite its lacklustre performance. She also surprised everyone by introducing herself and telling the Straw Hats that she is widely regarded as the government’s scientific brilliance.
