Wednesday, things got a little eerie on Twitter as Netflix released a new picture from their forthcoming series. The streamer cheekily tweeted “7 more Wednesdays until Wednesday,” foreshadowing the debut of the episode on November 23 and giving viewers an update on the countdown before the Addams family child gets her own tale. Even though it’s technically not Halloween anymore, we’re sure that those who want to keep the trick-or-treating going right up to Thanksgiving will be delighted to celebrate the end of the season with this. The photograph features Jenna Ortega, who plays the lead adolescent, giving us her signature scowl and lifeless eyes as she stares directly into the camera.
Wednesday is clearly unhappy, as seen by her frowning face, long hair, and all-black, flower-patterned dress. Morticia and Gomez Addams, played by Luis Guzmán, stand on each side of their daughter Wednesday (Catherine Zeta-Jones). In contrast to their child’s menacing expression, Gomez and Morticia are all smiles, with Gomez staring fondly at his wife as is typical of the character. Following Wednesday as she leaves for Nevermore Academy, the institution that was responsible for Morticia and Gomez’s relationship many years ago, Tim Burton’s dark comedy will premiere on Wednesday. Teens will develop their psychic abilities while navigating the regular stresses of adolescence.
But her academic career isn’t all doom and gloom; she’ll eventually uncover the secret that has haunted her family for centuries. The cast also includes Isaac Ordonez as Pugsley, Wednesday’s son and torture subject, Gwendoline Christie as Nevermore’s headmaster Larissa Weems, Riki Lindhome as Dr Valerie Kinbott, Jamie McShane as Sheriff Donovan Galpin, George Burcea as Lurch, Victor Dorobantu as Thing, and Joy Sunday as Wednesday’s school rival Bianca Barclay. Christina Ricci, who portrayed Wednesday in Tim Burton’s early ’90s feature-length successes The Addams Family and The Addams Family Values, will return in an unannounced role. Audience members have had early glances at the upcoming production through various snippets, photographs, and interviews.
The show will be gloomy, but there will be humorous moments throughout, much like everything else in the Addams Family world. If you’ve been following the franchise for a while, you’ll be happy to know that creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar have pledged to be faithful to the source material and have hidden many Easter Eggs over the duration of the series for fans to discover. Wednesday will make its streaming debut on November 23.
