A week after the last chapter, readers of The Beginning After the End will soon be able to access Chapter 163. Wren may be gruff with Arthur, but he has a point when he says that the knight should expect the unexpected on the battlefield. Fans were left on a dramatic cliffhanger at the end of the last chapter, watching as Tessia was held captive by a massive demon-like entity. Arthur would not have requested this meeting, but it appears to be another of Wren’s tests for the little lad.
Spoilers for Chapter 162
In the opening of Chapter 162, Arthur and Wren are talking about the sword Wren fashioned for Arthur. Dawn’s Ballad is Arthur’s sword, and he wants to know why he discovered it in Decathen. Wren explains that he left the weapon there while mining for minerals, but he never expected to see it again. Wren says the sword didn’t work out, but Arthur counters that he’s never seen anything greater than Dawn’s Ballad. First, because of Wren’s sharp eye for the art of battle, Windsom informs Arthur; second, so that he might receive a blade that matches his combat style.
Wren claims that he will keep Dawn’s Balled for the time being and make a new sword for Arthur. While Arthur is reluctant to give Wren his dragon feather, Wren asks for it anyhow. Wren and Windsom leave Arthur to snooze in the quiet region. While resting one night, Arthur is surrounded by Golems that suddenly emerge from the ground. Wren, looking down from the peak, says that he must be ready to fight at any point during the conflict.
Some Golems fight alongside Arthur, while others attack, and the conflict claims the lives of 271 of Arthur’s allies and 512 of the enemy. As a result, Wren is disappointed. Upon Wren’s departure, Arthur once again falls asleep, only to be startled awake by the sight of a monstrous monster clutching Tessia.
