The much-awaited continuation of Asta’s training storyline was revealed in spoilers and typeset raw scans of Black Clover Chapter 340, which were leaked last night. Fans had to wait only one week to find out how series creator and artist Yuki Tabata would go on in light of Asta’s newfound Zetten proficiency (Heavenly Severance). The strength of Asta, which Tabata develops through his training with Ichika, is emphasised in the spoilers for Black Clover Chapter 340. While there is still much to be done, the young Magic Knight has a solid basis to build upon, as described by Ryudo Ryuya.

If you’ve seen the previews for Chapter 340 of Black Clover, you know that at the start of this issue, Asta has already used Zetten on numerous stalks of bamboo, while an awestruck Ryuya watches. As Asta performs the technique, Ichika maintains her usual expression of bemusement while Fumito is both pleased and startled. On the following page, Fumito appears to be shocked once more as Asta complies with Ryuya’s request that he morphs.
But Ichika is unimpressed and starts probing him about his present appearance.
Now that their training has begun, she launches an assault on him, implying that Asta should be in his Devil Union form. With Ryuya’s enthusiastic approval, she keeps on pressing him until Ichika is near enough for her and Asta to begin swinging their swords.
The typesets for this page show Ichika kicking Asta into the air and stressing the need of making the most of openings for strikes when they present themselves. After suffering some blows from Ichika, Asta claims he’ll land a strike before kicking him so hard that he’s sent flying. He looks quite dishevelled and damaged, particularly in the chest area, and has sustained significant damage from their combat thus far.
He tells himself that his awareness is waning, but that he still wants to learn more about his newfound strength, so he tells his body to wait. He says his trademark “madada” (which means “not yet”) statement to Ichika before being smacked above the head, sending him crashing to the ground. As Ryuya and Fumito watch in horror, the instructor scolds her pupil, calling him an idiot for letting his foolishness go to his head. But the next panels in Black Clover Chapter 340 reveal that the blow was too much for Asta, and she passes out.
When Ryuya suggests that Ichika may have gone a little beyond, she responds by saying that, because it was a “genuine combat,” she thought her actions were warranted. She stresses her anger, leading Fumito to admit his own fear.
After remarking that only a small number of individuals in Hino Country can make that claim, Ryuya asks her how many people were conscious after taking a major strike from Ichika. While Ryuya chuckles and remarks about how much there is to see in the globe, Ichika simply stares at her shogun. In the last panel of Black Clover Chapter 340, a downed Asta lies on the ground while Ichika orders Ryuya to stop laughing. Ryuya, though, insists that he wasn’t laughing.
