An official release date hasn’t been set, but production on Season 5 of Star Trek: Discovery has begun in Toronto, Canada. Doug Jones was recently interviewed by Christina Radish for the upcoming Disney+ sequel Hocus Pocus 2, in which he reprises his role as Billy Butcherson, and Radish also made sure to check in with our favourite Kelpien and inquire about Discovery Season 5. Discovery, the first series of the current Star Trek era, distinguishes out from the pack because it actually takes viewers where they’ve never been before, exploring the cosmos more than 900 years succeeding the events of Star Trek: The Original Series. When you factor it in, you’ll notice that the visual style of each season of Discovery varies slightly from the last.
This is how Jones puts it: “A new season of Star Trek: Discovery presents a fresh challenge, as you have seen. Nothing has changed for Season 5. There are brand-new protagonists and exciting new plot lines.” Captain Saru was the first member of his species to join Starfleet, and Jones, renowned for his ability to act and enthral despite constantly changing prosthetics and outstanding makeup, play him. Saru (Sonequa Martin-Green) is Captain Michael Burnham’s (Sonequa Martin-Green) closest friend and confidante, despite their differences in philosophy and leadership style.
The fourth season of the programme featured the beginning of an unexpected love bond between Saru and T’Rina (Tara Rosling), the Vulcan president of Ni’var. In Season 4, the two extremely proper characters chose to pursue a romance, and Jones has given us a sneak peek at what we might expect to see of them in the future: “Every character, including Saru, goes through personal and narrative transformations during the course of the novel. Going into Season 5, I was most worried about whether or not my relationship with President T’Rina, my beautiful Vulcan woman, would continue. When I found out the solution, I was relieved, but you’ll have to watch Season 5 to find out what it is.”
The cast of Star Trek: Discovery also includes David Ajala, Anthony Rapp, Mary Wiseman, Wilson Cruz, and Blu del Bario, in addition to Jones and Martin-Green. Executive producers Heather Kadin, Aaron Baiers, Olatunde Osunsanmi, Frank Siracusa, John Weber, Rod Roddenberry, and Trevor Roth are joined by co-showrunners Alex Kurtzman and Michelle Paradise. Science fiction series Star Trek: Discovery Despite the lack of a confirmed launch date, Season 5 is expected to broadcast sometime in 2023, perhaps after the February 16, 2023 premiere of Star Trek: Picard Season 3, the series third and final season. Paramount+ currently has seasons 1-4 of Discovery available to stream.
