Fans of the monster king, Godzilla, should prepare for his imminent return to cinemas. Godzilla Against MechaGodzilla, first released in 2002, will be shown in U.S. theatres for the first time thanks to Fathom Events. On Godzilla Day, November 3, the film will play in nearly 450 locations nationwide. The initial Japanese premiere of Godzilla was on May 8, 1953, hence May 9 is now celebrated as Godzilla Day. Fathom Events and Toho International have collaborated with theatres around the United States to present this year’s kaiju celebration to their audiences.
There was only a theatrical release of Godzilla Against MechaGodzilla in Japan; the rest of the world had to wait years for a home video release. U.S. audiences will be able to watch the film in theatres for the first time with English subtitles, a “never-before-seen documentary direct from Japan,” and a greeting to fans from Keiji Ota, Toho International’s Chief Godzilla Officer. The twenty-seventh instalment in the Godzilla series is titled Godzilla Against MechaGodzilla. This is the fourth film in the franchise’s “Millennium period,” which began with Toho’s second series revival. Every movie from that era was a self-contained adventure that only connected to the 1953 original. Godzilla returns to Japan in this sequel to 1998’s Godzilla vs. MechaGodzilla.
As a result, the Japanese Self-Defense Forces (JSDF) utilise the dead monster’s flesh to create a cyborg mech known as MechaGodzilla. The machine’s pilot has to fight not only her own demons but also Godzilla’s “restless spirit,” which is still present in the device.
Fans have had a terrific opportunity to experience their favourite films on the big screen for the first time or again thanks to Fathom Events. They will also be showing Poltergeist, Scream 2, and Bram Stoker’s Dracula for their respective anniversaries. Lora Cohn, managing director of international licencing at Toho International, had this to say about working with Fathom Events: “Thanks to Fathom, we’re able to provide fans in the United States access to a stunning Godzilla film they’ve never seen before.” Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla is opening in hundreds of theatres, so there will be plenty of chances for fans to watch it on the big screen. Perfect for Godzilla Day festivities!
On October 7, tickets may be purchased at the event page on Fathom’s website or from the box office of participating theatres.
