A Mike Flanagan horror series is a must-watch for the frightening holiday of Halloween. In October, the acclaimed filmmaker will deliver an adaptation of the Christopher Pike novel The Midnight Club. The inclusion of horror icon Heather Langenkamp in Midnight Club is just one of many reasons to look forward to this YA fright anthology filled with ghost stories. With only one week left until the premiere, Netflix has published a new eerie teaser focusing on Langenkamp’s involvement in this nightmare. The 10 episodes of The Midnight Club will take place in the haunted Brightcliffe Hospice, which is explored in the teaser shared by Langenkamp on Twitter.
Her character, a caregiver, says that an institution is a safe place for the troubled teens that are housed there. She addresses us as if we were her next patient, and she even addresses us directly. While the trailer suggests that we’ll get to “create our own finale,” the creepy imagery in the background suggests otherwise. Something is wrong in Brightcliffe, and the bumps in the night experienced by the members of The Midnight Club seem to be more than just fiction, despite the fact that the show is aimed at a younger audience & uses the tried-and-true formula of presenting ghost stories. For this famed “final girl,” Langenkamp’s return to the horror genre in this series is a satisfying culmination of her career.
The iconic Wes Craven film, A Nightmare on Elm Street, launched her career in the role of Nancy Thompson. There, she fought the teen killer in her fantasies, Freddy Krueger. Since this series takes place in a mental institution, it shares some entertaining visual parallels with the third Dream Warriors film, in which Freddy terrorises a gang of teenagers. In the film, Nancy plays the role of the guide after becoming a doctor. It’s hard not to think of Nancy with the warped images and words utilised in this trailer.
Every gloomy corridor in this creepy show has a beautiful, wistful Dream Warriors vibe. It’s unclear what role Langenkamp will play in the show at this point, but the video we’ve seen so far suggests she may be an enemy of our young leads. Whatever the situation may be, it’s clear that Flanagan is a huge admirer of Langenkamp’s previous work, and the director’s collaboration with Langenkamp is a match made in horror heaven. Flanagan has produced nothing but masterpieces over the past decade.
He’s made some of the finest modern horror films, including Oculus, Hush, Doctor Sleep, The Haunting of Hill House, and Midnight Mass. Flanagan’s imagination is incredibly dark and twisted, so it will be interesting to see what he does with the YA horror genre. Iman Benson, Adia, Igby Rigney, Ruth Codd, Aya Furukawa, William Chris Sumpter, Annarah Cymone, and Sauriyan Sapkota also feature in The Midnight Club alongside Langenkamp. Regular Flanagan cast members including Zach Gilford, Matt Biedel, Rahul Kohli, and Samantha Sloyan also appear in the series. On October 7, Netflix will begin streaming The Midnight Club. You may check out the Langenkamp-focused trailer in the meanwhile. The Haunting at Bly Manor and Gerald’s Game, two of Flanagan’s previous works, are both currently streaming on Netflix.
