When his final film, Daniel’s Gotta Die, premieres at the forthcoming Austin Film Festival, Bob Saget will have the opportunity to leave viewers with one more chuckle and cement his legacy as one of the greatest comedians of all time. The festival has confirmed that Daniel’s Gotta Die will be screened during the event, which will take place in the state capital of Texas from October 27th to November 3rd, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. Premiering at the festival will be Saget’s final performance in front of an audience.
The film stars Joel David Moore as Powell and a cast including Jason Jones, Mary Lynn Rajskub, Carly Chaikin, Chantel Riley, Iggy Pop, and Saget as his quest to reunite with his family strikes a halt when he realises they all want to kill him for his fortune. Saget’s character in the film has the name Lawrence, but he has yet to be revealed. Canadian director Jeremy LaLonde, who previously directed the film Sex After Kids (2013), helmed this one. Daniel’s Gotta Die was written by Matthew Dressel and was primarily produced by Nicholas Tabarrok, Leah Jaunzems, and Leah Jaunzems through production. The director said in a statement, “Bob’s passing came as a shock to the entire Daniel’s Gotta Die team. He was a collaborator through and through and he really loved this film. It’s with great sadness that he never got to see it finished.”
Saget apparently did more than just perform in the movie; he also helped Dressel with the screenplay. He really brought the character’s heart to the surface of the writing and was insistent on making sure he always got it right, the writer said, adding that the late comic “took on a really fatherly role right from the start; willing to assist out in any way he could.” Due to his untimely passing in January, while doing a stand-up tour, Daniel’s Gotta Die will be the final time fans see Saget on television. Saget was mourned by the entertainment industry as one of the greatest racy comedians of all time.
Although he was most recognised for his stand-up comedy, he also appeared in a number of films and television shows, with his part as Danny Tanner on Full House in the 1990s being his most well-known. In his role as Tanner, Saget won the hearts of American families who could identify with his everyman challenges, helping to make Full House one of the most popular television series of the 1990s. Even though Fuller House was not nearly as successful as the original series, he would reprise his role as a recurrent character in the 2010s spinoff. It has not been announced when Daniel’s Gotta Go will premiere at festivals.
