President of Marvel Studios Kevin Feige has indicated that Wanda Maximoff, played by Elizabeth Olsen, may still make a return appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Wanda, or the Scarlet Witch, is a powerful sorceress who uses a kind of magic called Chaos Magic to alter the course of events. Olsen has appeared in a number of MCU films, including the box office smash Avengers: Endgame and the Disney+ miniseries WandaVision, which follows Wanda as she creates a fantasy life for herself in the suburbs after the murder of her husband Vision at the hands of Thanos.
Her most recent appearance was in Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness when she had been corrupted by the Darkhold and was fixated on finding Tommy and Billy, her children from a previous marriage, in a parallel world, despite the consequences to all of reality. Wanda is eventually beaten by Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) and America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez), and she begins to regret her crimes. She then destroys Wundagore Castle and seemingly perishes in the ruins. Feige’s suggestion that Wanda escaped the blast, however, suggests that not all is as it seems.
Speaking with Variety, he asked rhetorically, “I don’t know that we spotted her under the rubble?” A tower collapsed in front of me, and there was a brief flash of red light. Sorry, I can’t even begin to guess what that implies.” Some fans have speculated that the red light visible as Wanda supposedly falls to her death is a sign she was able to save herself, so Feige’s idea likely won’t come as a surprise to them. After all, no one saw the corpse for themselves, so anything is conceivable. Feige revealed something that added a bit more excitement to the MCU: “In the multiverse, anything can happen.
Ultimately, that’s up for debate. Even more surprisingly, the renowned producer also noted that there is still a lot of mystery to be revealed in Wanda’s backstory. To paraphrase, “There truly is so much more to discover,” he stated. We haven’t even begun to cover many of the important plotlines from the comics. Fans are convinced that Olsen will return in the upcoming Agatha: Coven of Chaos spin-off series from WandaVision, despite Marvel head Kevin Feige’s refusal to formally acknowledge her return to the MCU. Agatha Harkness, portrayed by Kathryn Hahn, is Wanda’s seemingly kind next-door neighbour who is eventually shown to be a sinister witch.
The show’s lead writer and executive producer, Jac Schaeffer (WandaVision), is scheduled to return. While fans are eager to see Olsen return to the role, she told Good Morning America earlier this year that she “knows nothing” about the character’s future on screen. Marvel fans appear to be in for more of the same.
A release window for Agatha: Coven of Chaos has not been set.
