It would appear like Vampires are making a comeback in the fashion world. Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire has been picked up for a second season on AMC Networks, it was announced today. This news arrives days before the series’ October 2 launch on AMC and AMC+. Anne Rice’s bestselling Gothic Horror Vampire Novel from 1976 serves as inspiration for the series. It’s an account of a centuries-old vampire’s life, as related to a reporter by the vampire himself.
The novel had a film adaptation in 1994, with Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise in the lead roles. This new version of the narrative is being called a “sensuous” and “modern” retelling. Louis de Pointe du Lac (Jacob Anderson), a vampire, tells a journalist about his time as a mortal and his connection with Lestat de Lioncourt (Sam Reid) (Eric Bogosian). The second season is claimed to take place mostly in Europe and to continue the “epic saga of love, blood, and the horrors of immortality,” however specifics are being kept under wraps to avoid spoilers.
Bailey Bass, who plays Claudia, the young vampire, will also return for the second season.
Rolin Jones, who oversaw the first season, will return to supervise the show for the upcoming second season, which also features eight episodes. Jones’s resume includes work as Perry Mason’s showrunner. It has also been reported that the show’s original executive producer, Mark Johnson, will be back for another season. Johnson is most known for executive producing the first season and other critically acclaimed shows including Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. Oscar and Emmy winner Mark Johnson (Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, Halt and Catch Fire, Rectify) and Emmy winner Mark Gordon (Perry Mason, Friday Night Lights) will executive produce the upcoming second season, which will feature eight episodes set in Europe.
Johnson made a public statement on the show’s renewal for a second season, saying: It is impossible to pass up the chance to re-enter the frightening and passionate world of Louis, Lestat, and Claudia. We’re excited to enter the door AMC has offered for us and give fans a second season worthy of all the Anne Rice magic we’ve been given. Furthermore, AMC Networks and AMC Studios’ head of original programming, Dan McDermott, issued a statement in which he said: Mark and Rolin have done an incredible job with the scale and breadth of this event. We’re really pleased with how they captured the ambience of Anne Rice’s Interview. Not a single element was neglected throughout production. This includes but is not limited to set design, production design, costume design, and more. Every member of this all-star group gives a performance that brings us closer to these people and their stories. We are overjoyed that this tale will continue and can’t wait to show the world the results of this remarkable work in a matter of days. This is only the beginning of a vast multiverse filled with stories and characters that do justice to Anne Rice’s genius.
In tandem with the series premiere, AMC Networks will release a companion podcast hosted by writer, comedian, and self-proclaimed “vampire-enthusiast” Naomi Ekperigin. On the podcast, Ekpergian will discuss each mind-blowing episode with other cast members and showrunners. The pilot is currently accessible on all major podcasting sites.
On October 2nd, AMC and AMC+ will air the first episode of Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire.
