Most children have returned to their classrooms now that September has ended, but in October, Paramount+ and Nickelodeon will release Monster High: The Movie, which features the most fantastic pupils from the Mattel toy line. We have an exclusive first look at the upcoming feature-length film, which will reintroduce audiences to the offspring of some of the most iconic Universal Classic Monsters. This bright and cheery song hides a wealth of complexity. There are astute horror allusions, beautiful settings, and a terrible mystery surrounding the freshmen of Monster High.
The underlying sentiments are filled with monster hearts, encouraging the local ghosties and goblins to celebrate their individuality and band together in friendship. Miia Harris’s Clawdeen Wolf is a human/wolf hybrid who has just transferred to Monster High and will be our guide as we investigate this new monster world. Even though there are a lot of creepy teenagers hanging about, the trailer reveals that the biggest threat to monster-kind comes from humans and that there may be an “untrue monster heart” among them. This exclusive footage gives viewers their first glimpse at Clawdeen as she meets her roommates, Frankie Stein (Ceci Balagot), the daughter of Frankenstein’s creator, and Draculaura (Nayah Damasen), the daughter of Dracula.
Frankie, full of enthusiasm and endearment from the start, introduces themselves to Clawdeen. As it turns out, Frankie’s brain is made up of the brains of several renowned people, including Albert Einstein, Marie Curie, Plato, and “some girl named Liz who reportedly developed the internet, but didn’t receive credit.” That’s Elizabeth Feinler talking there. Clawdeen has her head down, trying to take it all in when Frankie’s finger suddenly shoots off. Then Draculaura emerges from her tomb, where she’s been hiding the whole time. She’s outgoing and kind, but also very much a Type A, laying down rules and limits for her new housemates. “Students from all walks of life” are encouraged to attend Monster High, as stated in the video’s description.
Ghouls, skeletons, and sea creatures of all kinds populate the classrooms, and the video shows that the dormitories have been decorated with what can only be described as Target’s back-to-school for ghouls collection. The dialogue is snappy and the character designs, inspired by the horror-glam Mattel dolls, are bright and colourful. Looking for a family-friendly Halloween film this year? Monster High: The Movie seems like it will be a great option, right up there with Hocus Pocus 2 and The Curse of Bridge Hollow! Besides Harris, Balagot, and Damasen, the cast also features Lilah Fitzgerald as Ghoulia, Case Walker as Deuce Gorgon, Jy Prishkulnik as Cleo De Nile, Lina Lecompte as Lagoona Blue, and more.
This scary movie, which was inspired by a Mattel toy, was directed by comedy veteran Todd Holland. Throughout the ’90s and ’00s, Holland contributed to many beloved comedic programmes, including fan favourites like Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventures, My So-Called Life, Friends, and Malcolm in the Middle as well as more contemporary hits like 30 Rock and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. Holland, who also helmed episodes of Twin Peaks and Tales from the Crypt, has provided Monster High with the ideal balance of comedy and horror to make it a new kids’ classic. Greg Erb, who wrote Disney’s The Princess and the Frog, adapted the narrative for this picture, which was directed by Billy and Matt Eddy (Eureka!
On October 6, Nickelodeon and Paramount+ will air the first episodes of Monster High: The Movie.
